Jsunflyguy Posted January 31, 2014 Share #4007 Posted January 31, 2014 Interesting, I'd expect some River tunnels to be lost in such an earthquake. Let's try this. Due to political fighting over funding there has been a stipulation attached to the MTA's next round of funding. All unused middle/third tracks must be used consistently (including the Sea Beach Line) at least 12hrs a day. In addition the connection between the Broadway line and the 63rd st tunnel must be used.
P3F Posted January 31, 2014 Share #4008 Posted January 31, 2014 I'll assume that "at least 12hrs a day" doesn't include weekends. Also, this goes for when SAS is already in effect. BMT Jamaica: becomes reverse peak direction express. (To not destroy the skip stop service in the peak direction). BMT Sea Beach: After is brought back in SAS, every other train runs the Sea Beach Express, possibly with an express stop at Kings Highway. BMT West End: After is brought back in SAS, every other train peak direction runs the West End Express. 63rd Street to B'way: Every other train runs via 63rd Street instead of 60th Street. IND Queens Blvd and IND Culver: Express train created, runs express on Hillside and IND Culver. Runs express on BMT Culver in reverse peak direction. (Yes I know this would be difficult, I've seen the discussions.) IRT 7th Avenue: South Ferry Loop is now free because the Island Platform is fixed. uses five-car sets and runs from South Ferry Loop to 242nd Street, express north of 96th Street reverse-peak. IRT Jerome Ave: Express runs express peak direction, similar to that pilot the did a few years back. IRT WPR/Dyre: This is probably where the service is least needed. Some trains (About 4 TPH) run express north of E180 on their respective line. IRT : Umm, Some Local trains sent as peak express to Pelham Bay Park? This line doesn't need that service either. IND Liberty/Rockaways: 2TPH of expresses run along the third track to Lefferts and along the express tracks past Howard Beach. This is literally just to pass the requirement and I don't expect this service to benefit many.
cl94 Posted January 31, 2014 Share #4009 Posted January 31, 2014 Oh, boy. This will cause some delays. Without Montague, we're kinda limited. But, there isn't much that hasn't been previously thought of. In a perfect world, the Sandy damage would be fixed, so I'll assume that everything is back open. Here we go: Bring back the . South of 96th Street, it runs local. North of there, it runs on the center express track. Downtown in the morning, uptown in the afternoon and evening. Extend the to Stillwell, running local in Brooklyn. The runs peak direction express between Broadway Junction and Marcy and on the West End. Have a new service run from Stillwell to Ditmars via Sea Beach and the Manhattan Bridge. Basically, the / NX, but runs express on Sea Beach, Broadway, and in Queens. The uses the 63rd Street Tunnel to Queens, running QBL/Hillside express all the way to 179th Street The runs express on the Culver line (peak direction only between Church and Avenue X). The is brought back and uses its old route. Every other train is extended to Stillwell via Culver Local Concourse express service is expanded The is extended to Ocean Parkway and runs in Brooklyn 24/7 The Rockaways runs express on Liberty Avenue. Some trains run express north of Broad Channel. 1/3 of Lefferts run express east of where the Rockaway Line branches off. The runs express in the Bronx The is express all the way to Pelham Bay Park and the no longer ends at Parkchester The is full-time express south of E180. North of there, every third and runs express to Wakefield of Dyre, respectively. You didn't mention the connecting tracks at Broadway Junction, so I assume they don't have to be used. But, if they must, run the from Canarsie to 168th via 8th Avenue local, running on the Jamaica line btwn ENY and Essexl. I think that covers everything.

Orion V 9441 Posted January 31, 2014 Share #4012 Posted January 31, 2014 I have a scenario A magnitude 9 earthquake has struck the city (rest of situation snipped) : Service split into two sections: one from South Ferry to 148th Street, and from Dyckman Street to 242nd Street. : Service split into two sections: one from Flatbush Avenue to Freeman Street, and from East 180th Street to Wakefield-241st Street. : Service Suspended to free up space at 148th Street for the train. : Service operates local east of Franklin Avenue to New Lots Avenue. Service runs local north of 145th Street. shuttle trains run across Far Rockaway using Hammel's Wye. : Suspended. : Suspended. , : Combined service operates between Norwood-205 Street and Avenue X (terminating on the pocket track). Service will run local along 8th Avenue to West 4th Street, and then operating on the IND Culver line to Avenue X. : In order to provide extra capacity to Brooklyn, trains are extended through the Cranberry Street Tunnel, operating local to Euclid Avenue. : Service operates only between Jamaica Center and Alabama Street, terminating in the ENY yard. Shuttle Buses operate between Myrtle Avenue and Alabama Avenue. : Service split into two sections: one from 8th Avenue to Myrtle Avenue, and from Atlantic Avenue to Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway. : Suspended. We'll keep Montague open, sorry I didn't mention it. : Service operates between Metropolitan Avenue and Bay Parkway (need a brown "M" for this). : Service operates from 71st Street-Forest Hills, along Montague Street tunnel and runs local along 4th Avenue, terminating at 86th Street. : Service is extended along the 63rd Street Connection, and terminates at 179th Street, operating the service pattern of the train. Trains also terminate at Ocean Parkway. : No service north of 36th Street. Shuttle buses will be operating: Along 6th Avenue from West 4th Street to Central Park, Terminating at 5th Avenue-59th Street. Along the Brooklyn Bridge from Canal Street (BMT Broadway Line) to Dekalb Avenue. Between Freeman Street and East 180th Street. Between Marcy Avenue, Atlantic Avenue and Alabama Avenue. Along 31st Street between Ditmars blvd, Queens Plaza and Court Square. Between Woodside-61st Street, Queens Plaza and Court Square. Between 96th Street and Dyckman Street. Between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Beach-90th Street. After the earthquake is over, there is a high risk that there may be fires in the system. Many of the routes, which are combinations of multiple routes, will have to be operated with whatever is available, meaning that there will be instances where some train models will operate to location where they are rarely seen. This will have the added benefit of providing a fire-suppression system in the parts of the system that are still running, as foamers flock to the subway entrances, putting out any fire before they can spread.
cl94 Posted February 1, 2014 Share #4013 Posted February 1, 2014 I have a scenario: During a riot following a Rangers-Islanders game at Madison Square Garden, much debris was deposited by rioters on the tracks of the 7th and 8th Avenue subway stations at Penn Station, causing structural and electrical issues. Support beams and third rails at both stations have been severed, preventing trains on both lines from passing through. Support beams and third rails at both stations have been severed, preventing trains on both lines from passing through. While this shouldn't matter, assume that all Sandy damage has been fixed. Here goes, and I'm assuming this is going to be a long-term fix (at least two weeks) as the damage was quite extensive: Shuttle buses run in a continuous loop from 14th Street-7th Avenue to 42nd Street-7th Avenue, via 8th Avenue uptown and and 7th Avenue downtown (stopping in both directions on streets of 7th Avenue stops). Additional shuttle buses operate between 14th Street-7th Avenue and 72nd Street-Broadway. There is no express service on the CPW line during this stoppage. and run from their northern terminals to Times Square-42nd Street (all downtown trains run local 96th Street-72nd Street and express 72nd-42nd Street with a special OOS transfer to the CPW line at 72nd Street) as this assumes the transfer tracks are not affected enough to allow trains to change directions south of Times Square. also runs South Ferry-18th Street, where it terminates. runs via the Lexington Avenue line to Flatbush Avenue at ALL TIMES. also runs 14th Street-7th Avenue to New Lots Avenue at ALL TIMES is truncated to Atlantic Avenue late nights since the is running 24/7 in Brooklyn. runs via the 7th Avenue line from Dyre Avenue-96th Street at ALL TIMES. runs local on CPW, via the to 34th Street and via the to West 4th Street before, then local to Chambers Street before resuming normal route. Single track shuttles operate between Columbus Circle and 42nd Street on the downtown express tracks. runs West 4th Street-Brighton Beach ONLY (using the express tracks at West 4th to terminate). runs 14th Street-Euclid Avenue ONLY (NOTE: 23rd Street station is CLOSED because the must use the express tracks at 14th Street since only the pocket track south of 34th Street station can be used to have trains change directions as that area was unaffected by the rioting). For Spring Street, take the , which is making that stop. runs local on CPW (and in The Bronx in both directions rush hours) and expect delays due to the terminating at West 4th. runs via 60th Street and via the Broadway line to Whitehall Street (local). Special OOS transfer between 63rd Street and 59th Street Broadway/Lexington Avenue line stations is available (ask for special OOS transfer when leaving either 59th or 63rd street so you don't use your regular MetroCard transfer). runs to 71st-Continental at ALL TIMES during this service interruption (no late night-weekend shuttle since the line is running the full route). If necessary, is extended to Jamaica Center or 179th Street. runs via 63rd street between 36th Street in Queens and 57th Street-7th Avenue in Manhattan. If necessary, is extended to Jamaica Center or 179th Street. Next: Water main break near Penn Station knocks out service at 34th Street on the Broadway, 6th Avenue and 7th Avenue lines. Do note the 8th Avenue line is unaffected and that the 42nd Street stations are NOT affected by this.
