Due to police investigation, 42 Street-Times Square (1)(2)(3)(7)<7>(N)(Q)(R)(S) is closed. 42-Port Authority (A)(C)(E) is not suspended. How would you reroute trains?

(1): 242 St to 96 St, South Ferry to 14 St

(2): via Lex

(3): Suspended

(7) Main St to Grand Central

(N) Astoria to 57 St

(Q): Brighton Beach to 34 St

(R): via 6 Av/63 St/Manhattan Bridge

Free shuttle buses run between 148th Street and 135th Street, and between 96th Street and Chambers Street making local stops.

Free shuttle buses run between Grand Central and Times Square stopping at 5th Avenue.

(N) : No trains between 57th Street-7th Avenue and Court Street  (R) station.

(Q) : No trains between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and Court Street  (R) station.

(R) : Trains run via the  (F) between 36th Street and West 4th Street, then to Manhattan Bridge.

Free shuttle buses run between 57th Street-7th Avenue and Whitehall Street making local stops.

 

It is really hard since you close down a complex with the most transfers in the city, and this is probably very money-consuming due to all the shuttle buses

It is really hard since you close down a complex with the most transfers in the city, and this is probably very money-consuming due to all the shuttle buses 

Why would you have shuttle buses between Grand Central and Times Square? There are already crosstown routes, which can run for free, and people can walk!

(E) runs via the Broadway Line between Whitehall Street and Queens Plaza.  Select (E) trains run via 63rd Street between 57th Street-7th Avenue and Roosevelt Avenue.

 

(G) operates between Church Avenue and Nassau Avenue.  LIMITED service between Nassau Avenue and Greenpoint Avenue.

Shuttle buses operate between Nassau Avenue and Queensboro Plaza (7)(N) station, stopping at BOTH Queens Plaza AND Queensboro Plaza.

 

(M) runs via the (F) between 47th-50th Streets, Manhattan and 36th Street, Queens.

Power problems on the Saturday evening following The Belmont Stakes (around 7:00 PM or so, right after The Belmont Stakes itself) leaves the LIRR with no service between Jamaica and Woodside, though the subways are unaffected.  Keep in mind, you are going to be dealing with a large chunk of the 140,000+ expected to be at Belmont Park for the Belmont Stakes and you have to get many of them between Jamaica Station and Manhattan in some way!

LIRR: Extra shuttle buses will operate between Woodside and Jamaica (mostly using NYCT, MTA Bus, North Folk Charter Buses and Designer Limos, mostly using articulated buses.

MTA: Q2 and Q110 bus will serve Belmont Park.

NICE Bus: In cooperation with Belmont Park, bus will also provide service between Jamaica Station and Belmont Park.

Subway:

(E) and (F) will have additional service.

LCL: Jamaica Station, Kew Gardens Station, Forest Hills Station, Woodside Station, Penn Station

EXP: Jamaica Station, Woodside Station (unless there's no Port Washington Branch), Penn Station

SPUR: Jamaica Station, Flushing Station (unless there's Port Washington Branch at Woodside)

 

Some LIRR trains are rerouted to Atlantic Terminal. Some LIRR trains terminate at Jamaica Station.

(R) - Runs via (F) 63rd St between 57th St / 7th Av and 36th St. (Uses tracks under Central Park to go from 57th St to 63rd St.)

(Q) - 42nd Street - Coney Island

Customers are advised to use the (7)(E)(M) as alternate routes.

 

IRT Lexington Ave Line:

(4) - Two Sections: Woodlawn - 86th St, and 42nd Street - Crown Heights Utica Ave

(5) - Dyre Ave - E180th St

(6) - Two Sections: Parkchester - 86th St, and 51st Street - Brooklyn Bridge City Hall

(S) - Single track shuttle 86th St - 68th St Hunter College

<6> - Pelham Bay Park - 3rd Ave 138th St

Customers are advised to use the M1/M2/M3/M4 northbound and the M101/M102/M103 southbound.

a broken 3rd rail at the junction where the 6th Avenue Line and the 53rd Street Line meet stops all (E)(F) and (M) trains from running through and it is impassable. (B) and (D) are not affected

(All trains terminate on the Queens-bound track)

 

Single-track shuttle train operates between Lexington Avenue (Downtown track) and 5th Avenue (Downtown platform).

 

Special OOS block transfers between the subway and the following buses:

M50 (49th/50th Street) and M31/M57 (57th Street) between 3rd and Lexington Avenues AND the 6th Avenue line (47th-50th or 57th Street), Broadway (49th Street or 57th Street-7th Avenue) and 7th & 8th Avenue lines (50th Street or Columbus Circle).

 

(M) and (R) are extended to 179th Street to compensate for loss of (E) service in lower Manhattan and most of midtown.

(F) and (M) trains stop on express track at 42nd and 47th-50th Streets.

(M) runs via the (F) between 47th-50th and 21st-Queensbridge before resuming local service at 36th Street.

 

Expect delays on the 6th Avenue line due to all four trains stopping on the express track at 42nd and 47th-50th Street.

I will make two posts; one if this occurs on a weekday and another if it occurs on a weekend. This is mine for a weekday:

 

(E): Train shortened to only operate from Jamaica Center to Lexington Avenue-53rd Street. All trains trapped on the 8th Avenue Line will be put on the  (C) Train to increase service.

(F): Split into Two sections: From 179th Street to Whitehall Street (BMT Broadway Line) Via 63rd Street Connector and Broadway Express (If Whitehall Street backs up, some trains will terminate at Canal Street Station, relaying on the tracks leading to the never-opened lower platform at City Hall station. The other section will operate from Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue to 42nd Street-Bryant Park, terminating on the two local platforms. Staff will be present to help direct passengers to the correct platform. Some trains may also operate via the (G) line to even out service on the two sections.

(G): Trains extended to Forrest Hills-71st Avenue from Court Street.

(M):Trains Terminate at 42nd Street-Bryant park on the two local platforms, passing through the crossovers between 34th Street-Herald Square and 42nd Street-Bryant Park. Staff will be present to help direct passengers to the correct platform.

(Q) some trains may operate via the 63rd Street connector on the (F) line if trains become too crowded.

 

In my next post: I will show what I would do if this occurs on a weekend.

Here is my second post, showing what I would do if this delay occurred on a weekend:

 

(E): Trains operate from Jamaica Center to Lexington Avenue-63rd Street. All trains trapped on the 8th avenue line will be put into service on the  (C) train to increase service.

(F) Train operates in two sections: from 179th street to Canal Street via the 63rd Street Connector and Broadway express to Canal Street (local platforms), relaying on the tracks leading to the lower level of City Hall Station. The other section will operate from Coney Island Stillwell Avenue to 42nd Street-Bryant Park, and operating via the (not running) (B) line to 145th street.

(Q): Trains extended from 57th Street-7th Avenue to 179th Street via the (F) line.

Actually, if you look at this track map (http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/caption.pl?/img/trackmap/detail-47-63.png) you can see the express track can be used to access the (F) track to 57th Street-6th Avenue and the 63rd Street line.  That connection has NO interaction with the junction you are talking about, so the (F) and (M) can switch to the express track AND go to the (F) track without dealing with the junction in that situation (The (B) when it terminated at 57th/6th could do this as well)..
