Department of Subways - Proposals/Ideas

Recommended Posts

Why did they add service to the (5)? They could've kept it at 10 minute headways and then cut less service on the (4) (Maybe run it every 6-7 minutes instead of every 8)

Evens out the headways on the (2)(5) (Bronx and Brooklyn) and (4)(5) (Bronx, Manhattan, and Brooklyn).

Also the express local pairs (2)(3) / (4)(5) (Brooklyn) and (4)(5) / (6)<6> (Manhattan) each have the same amount of midday service.

(2) - 8 minutes

(3) - 8 minutes

(4) - 8 minutes

(5) - 8 minutes

(6) - 8 minutes

<6> - 8 minutes

I say a return of the last W before it was discontinued (Astoria Local/Broadway Local), except it would be continued through the Monyague Street Tunnel after Whitehall with the R to Jay Street Metrotech. The MTA would build a short connector tunnel at Jay Street between the BMT and IND tracks, and the W serves as the Culver Express to Church Avenue, with a peak-direction express extension to Kings Highway. Like the last W, this would be a weekday-only route.

My route is the IRT Eighth Avenue Line, which will run parallel with the IND Eighth Avenue Line's (E) train until Canal St. to relieve congestion on crowded E train stations. The services are a new 9 colored in vivid blue, with the 10 as it's skip-stop service only serving stations during late nights and rush hours.

What do you think about my fictional subway route?

Not necessary, you'd be better off extending the (7) to WTC, as it would help more riders that way.

Actually, my plan for that, which (I think) I noted previously would have the (W) as you would do it to Metrotech EXCEPT after Metrotech, it would break away and run over a completely re-built Myrtle Avenue El, starting with Navy Street, the first elevated station after Metrotech. All stations, including the upper level of Myrtle Avenue on the Broadway El and other existing ones on the remaining portion of the old line would be re-built to handle 600' trains and 75' cars, though because of this some stations from the old El would be re-located and/or combined because of these stations being considerably longer than the old Myrtle El stations, hence the need for fewer stops than the old El.

There also would be a breakaway after Sumner Avenue (the first rebuilt station after Myrtle-Broadway from the remaining portion of the old El) that would go on to a new connection to the existing Franklin Avenue Shuttle, with all remaining stations on that line rebuilt to two tracks and 600' capacity and Franklin Avenue becoming a through station of a NEW Myrtle-Brighton line that I also noted here previously.

Threxx wants to extend the (E)(F) from Jamaica to Southeast Queens, near the County Line.

Let me make these clear:

Eastern Queens is woefully underserved by subway service, and people continue to sardine onto buses which are few and inadequate.

The (E) would be extended to Rosedale via the LIRR RoW. All LIRR trains would be diverted via St. Albans. Stations would be added along the RoW to better serve customers.

A new line would be build under Hillside Avenue to the County Line.

A new bypass track would be dedicated for a new <E> and <F> services at rush hours.

The (7) and <7> would be extended to Douglaston with (7) trains ending in Bayside when <7> trains are running.

The (J), (Z) extension is deleted.

I'm thinking of a new line.

A line from 168 Street, Manhattan to Little Neck Parkway (LIE), Queens.

Via 8 Avenue Express, Worth Street Line, Flushing Avenue Line, LIE Express.

The Flushing Avenue line is from the IND Second System, and the LIE line does not travel directly on the LIE.

What do you think?

Meh, too long. It should just have it's own crosstown line (under 34th Street perhaps) and terminate on the West Side.

I thought of a Flushing Avenue Line once, and it was also a crosstown line and it ended at Javits Center and LaGuardia Airport. It was going to be called the (FL) line.

EDIT: Instead if 34 Street, it still went under the Worth Street Tunnel & 8 Avenue Local until 14 Street, where it joins the 10th Avenue Line to Javits Center.

Update:

(P) now runs to Howard Beach, (A)(C) replace the Linden Blvd Line, (KN) (BVEStation) replaces the Liberty Avenue Line (Now to Jamaica Center-Merrick Blvd). Also, the Wakefield Branch is suspended, replaced by the (X).

--------------------------

New Line:

(S) Throgs Neck Shuttle

Harding Avenue, The Bronx to Zerega Avenue, The Bronx

via Laffaytte Avenue Local - Throgs Neck Line (E177 St, Tremont Av)

STOPS:

Harding Avenue/Tremont Avenue

Miles Avenue/Tremont Avenue

Dewey Avenue/Tremont Avenue & E 177 Street

Randall Avenue/E 177 Street

Balcom Avenue/E 177 Street

Brush Avenue/Laffayette Avenue

Zerega Avenue/Laffayette Avenue

New line:

Main Street/White Plains Rd South line. The stops are:

Jamaica Center (transfer to (E)(J)(Z) )

Parsons Blvd/Hillside Avenue (transfer to (F) )

Parsons Blvd/Union Turnpike

Main Street/Union Turnpike

Jewel Avenue

Hoarce Harding/Booth Memorial

Main Street/Roosevelt Avenue (transfer to (7) )

College Point-15th Avenue

Bruckner

Parkchester (transfer to (6) )

Bronx Park East (transfer to (2)(5) )

Obviously this would be a 4-6 car line. I don't see ridership being high enough to justify 10 cars. This is not likely to happen in the near future, but that's why they call it a fantasy. :D

I just thought of an idea...completely unheard of and on the borderline of insane...

I shall call it the (K)

This fictional (K) train will run from 207 St to Lefferts Blvd via 8 Av and Fulton St express. At nights, it will be a shuttle from Broadway Junction to Lefferts Blvd via express

Any existing car can use it

The idea of this route is not insane, it's just a rename of the (K) and the extension of the late night shuttle.

On the other hand, the fleet might be a problem.....
