Bus Operator, Exam No. 7612

List Status:  This list has been extended to October 17th, 2023.

Pay: The current minimum salary for Bus Operator is $24.16 per hour for a 40-hour work week, increasing to $37.42 in the sixth year of service.

List Number Called: For initial Pre-Employment: (Complete) - For Medical: (Complete)

Next Training Class: You will be scheduled with candidates of more recent Bus Operator exams (which are pinned), so check those threads for more up-to-date recent information.

Resources: DOB New Hire FAQ, Handouts & DMV Road Test Prep Videos (if necessary)

Additional: For those who will be reporting to Livingston Street in the future, click here for the pre-employment packet and click here or for extra pages of the CPD-B booklet (if you need them) for final processing. In addition, if you need help getting your Class B Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP), I would encourage you to check out cristcdl.com. Remember, the multiple-choice exams that you need to take and pass, at minimum, are General Knowledge, Air Brakes and Passenger Endorsement.

For those of you who wish to restore your name to the list, you must do so by sending an e-mail to certificationunit@dcas.nyc.gov. In your e-mail, state your full name, exam number, list number, the last four of your social security number, and a brief reason why you're restoring your name to the list. You don't have to go into full detail in the e-mail.

Good luck!!

As long as you bring your dispositions, and you disclose everything now, you should be fine.

Thirteen (13) hours? What was the holdup? And this was all just to take a drug test, a.k.a. urinate in a cup? Jeez...

If you read the Notice of Examination, towards the bottom of the first page it says "There are no formal education or experience requirements for this exam," therefore the answer is no.

In addition, as a friendly reminder, your list number is in the 1500's, right?

Backed up lab all day,we did all out paperwork by 1130 we didn't get in the lab till after 1700

Hi everyone,
I was called for pre-employment on October 18th, so I mailed in the letter with the check box marked I decline this appointment. Today I got a phone call and an email saying that I am to report on November 6th Wednesday for pre-employment. Why would they call me back so quick and also I didn't even reinstate my name. Has this happened to anybody else or could this be a mistake from their part?

It's probably a mistake...if I had to take an educated guess, they're trying to give the people a couple of chances to report for pre-employment before having to restore their name to the list through DCAS. Usually they're caught "off-guard" with the first notice, therefore, if "Employment Operations" gives them a second chance, they're hoping the people will show up.

Although you declined your appointment, your list number is in the 1700's, right?

Yes that's my list number range.

I remember you mentioned that we can defer only two times because on the third defer your name will be permanently removed from the list.

If this is correct, do you know if this rule applies to the NYC police officer exam as well ?

and if I decide to not report this coming Wednesday 11-6 for pre employment, would this count as my second deferment ?

Thank You

This rule applies to all city-wide exams, including for the NYPD.

As far as the second question, since your initial pre-employment was only a few weeks ago, this would still count as one deferment. If you want to double check this, I would type your last name into the search box of this website, which can be found at the top-right hand side of the page. If your name comes up once with a request date of September 18th, 2019, then this will be your first deferment. If you scroll to the right, you'll see that NYC Transit has approximately a month to invite you in and start with the pre-employment process. Therefore, the fact that you deferred twice within a couple of weeks count as one deferment.

Got it? If not, please do not hesitate to ask any specific questions.

They're scrambling once again to fill in spots. There's a lot of guys retiring or leaving based on the new seniority numbers in the system pick...

If there that desperate why are folks going for premployment 4 or 5 times

First of all, if people get placed on medical hold, no one knows for sure how long that's going to take to get them off of that particular hold. It could be resolved with a simple note from your Primary Care Physician, or more than likely, the candidate has to go to some type of specialist.

Second, if you watch this video, at approximately 1 minute and 23 seconds, the video states that "Typically, 23% of those hired will fail out of the initial training." Therefore, with the fact that not everyone is going to pass training does not help the situation.

Third, you have to keep in mind that this is a civil service position. As a result, the folks who missed their initial appointment, for whatever reason, have the ability to restore their name to the list. When this happens, their list number stays the same. As a result, they get first priority compared to someone who's going down to Livingston Street for the first time without initially declining the opportunity.

Fourth, for this position, the drug tests are valid for 30 calendar days. Therefore, before you go to medical, they need to have a negative drug test on file. And, if other people are there who have a lower list number than yours, such as someone who restored their name to the list, they will get first priority.

Fifth, someone from "Employment Operations" personally told me that they don't work too hard. Therefore, ... (I'll let you come to your own conclusion, especially if you've already been down there and experienced it yourself, respectively).

Background checks? and Employment verification. Do we need to know or prove everything from 20 years ago? Or is it just 10 years.

I'm not understanding what you're saying...they do a background check, however it is not as extensive as the NYPD. As far as employment verification, you need to know everything from the time you graduated high school.

Ok so I might have to go to Social Security office  and have a lifetime employment printed. Because I do not have the dates past ten years.

First of all, welcome to the Forums!!

Second, when "Employment Operations" looks at your abstract, they will look at it for the past three years. Therefore, if you have 8 points on your license, you simply have to wait until the points expire. In addition, in order to proceed you need to have at maximum four [4] points on your license. Therefore, if you have a total of eight [8] points with multiple incidents, such as tickets, once that number gets to or below four [4], you're good to go. However, if you got all eight [8] points in a single incident, then you would have to wait three [3] years until that single incident, respectively.

Third,  as far as moving out of state, mind I ask what state you have your license in? The reason why I am asking is because NYC Transit will only accept a regular driver's license and your CLP (Commercial Learner's Permit) from New York only. They will also accept a valid Class B CDL with a Passenger Endorsement, along with an abstract less than 30 days old from either New Jersey, Connecticut or Pennsylvania. Therefore, although you will need to tell NYC Transit that you did move to South Carolina, since they ask for your residence for the past ten years, as long as you meet the license requirements that I just described, you're good.

As far as sending the e-mail, in the long run, it doesn't matter since they "don't work too hard." Just make sure to keep your license clean and remember to send them another email once you're ready to proceed.

From Transit's perspective, they go back 3 years from the date of violation. Read this post for more information, which I posted in the 9604 thread back on May 5th.

Thank you Young. I appreciate you taking your time to respond. I have my license in South Carolina now. I do have 2 extra one from NY when I surrendered my NY license so I am sure the extras aren’t valid. I also told them in SC that I won’t bother renewing it to class A which is what I had in NY, I wish I didn’t do that.

You're welcome. As far as renewing your CDL is concerned...(self-explanatory)

Ok, with that out of the way, I have a 5 point ticket, also have another ticket that I got on 6/28/2018 that I plead guilty to on 11/01/2018. What happened was that It was for speeding but I plead it down to a disobey traffic control device summons which is 3 points. It was a plea deal and I accepted on behalf of my attorney so that's what happened. Now my question is...will transit still make a fuss over this when march of 2020 comes along and the 5 point ticket gets ignored due to the fact that it makes it 3 years old occurance at that point? Will I need proof of payment or I just have to say that I paid both of the tickets? If so...how can I get the proof of payment? Sorry this is too long and for too many questions. Thank you in advance.

First of all it's not too long. Offhand, have you considered running off your own abstract? If not, click here for the details.

When you report to 180 Livingston Street, this is one of the things they are going to do. Although the format will be a little different, the information will exactly be the same. Therefore, I haven't had any points or tickets or anything to that nature on my abstract, however I have heard from other members that as soon as you pay the ticket, or, in your case, accept the plea deal, it will show up on your abstract. Therefore, as long as it shows on your abstract that you paid the ticket, you'll be fine.

Like I said earlier, they only look at your abstract for the past three years. Therefore, it all depends on exactly when your 5 point ticket is over three years old and when you report to Livingston Street. Worse comes to worse, they'll give you a paper and tell you to come back either in a few days or next week without having to restore your name to the list. Even if your 5 point ticket is 3 years and a day or two old, from their perspective, that's acceptable compared to your 5 point ticket just being shy of three years old.

Whats up everyone ?  I got called in for 7612, I did the pre employment. I am also on medical hold for the other matsoaba bus operator exam, whatever you call it thats not civil service. I reinstated myself back on that list after being on medical hold. Once im back in on that list, theyre supposed to get back to me to finish medical. I did the sleep apnea compliance thing. I went to my doctor, did everything they asked. I got a letter from my doctor saying im good. Sleep apnea is good, I got the machine. I got my compliance report. Its ready.

ANYWAY while that was happening, i got preemployment letter for 7612, I did the preemployment went to do the drug test, I finished everything in 3 hrs. And they gave me the CPD booklet.

Now my question is because my questineere dates for employment might be off, they are accurate, but I want to be extra accurate. I want to fill gap times.  Will they allow me to adjust or fix my questioneere ? Because im going to put down even more accurate work history etc etc on the CPD ?

ALSO everyone you can extend your cdl-permit 1 time.  I did that already at the dmv.  I had too. It almost expired.

As far as your first question, both have to match 100%. If not, you will get grilled during final processing.

As far as your second question, if you click here, the DMV states that you can renew your permit once for 180 days. However, if you need to renew it a second time, then you will need to take the necessary multiple-choice exams all over again.

Gotcha. When I get called for medical I'm going to ask them if I can redo the questionnaire again.
