Via Garibaldi 8 Posted December 25, 2010 Share #76 Posted December 25, 2010 It came to me when I realized that all the buses and jitney connected Union City to Manhattan only serve the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Though if I were to run the X40, I'd only charge $2.50-3 from Union City.(or $2.25 if the MTA runs it) Do you think many people would use it from Staten Island?
gtNovaBusRTS9369 Posted December 25, 2010 Share #77 Posted December 25, 2010 What streets does the M17 travel? It says it next to the stops section.
checkmatechamp13 Posted December 25, 2010 Share #78 Posted December 25, 2010 I would doubt that it would see heavy ridership. People who live near Slosson Avenue already have the express buses go right onto the SIE, and people further west go towards the X17J, which is very frequent in the AM. If it is that important to serve those people, maybe a few X31s can make local stops along North/South Gannon Avenue.

brokecrazy Posted December 27, 2010 Share #82 Posted December 27, 2010 The folks in Yorkville don't want to deal w/the subway nor the SBS on the M15 and they can afford $5 - $6 each way. This X40 sounds weird... Why Union City???? MTA buses are not allowed to p/u, d/o in NJ..
brokecrazy Posted December 27, 2010 Share #83 Posted December 27, 2010 I created a manhattan route in the form of the M17: M17: Serves World Trade Center/Chambers Street to West 34th Street Stops: Via Chambers Street, Canal Street W.Houston Street, West 4th Street, Turn right to 14th Street then up 8av with the M20. Then terminates at 34 Penn Station. Task: Assist train passengers in going to World Trade Center in times when it is re-routed to alternative route. Assist Crosstown workers in transfers. Additional Service: Extension to 42nd street during rush hours resulting in Battery Park City/South Ferry to 42nd street/Port Authority Bus Terminal. This has yet to be developed but it'll be more Improved. Nonstop, this would have been the former X26 bus route.

Q101 E Midtown Posted December 27, 2010 Share #85 Posted December 27, 2010 (edited) MTA buses are not allowed to p/u, d/o in NJ.. I see. I'll assume you're talking about the express buses. Then it could be done by a private operator. And to answer your question, VG8, I imagine the SIers would fill up about 24 to 35 seats per run with about maybe 7 round trips. checkmatechamp13 Posted December 28, 2010 Share #92 Posted December 28, 2010 That could possibly be because the service ends at Kings Highway, and it is harder to continue west (there is no easy way to get towards Bay Ridge/Dyker Heights). If you expand the route, you might discover a demand for travel between these areas. If you think about it, the B9 gets a lot of riders that continue past the Brighton Line.

IRT Bronx Express Posted December 30, 2010 Share #99 Posted December 30, 2010 I always thought about how long the commute would be if the Bx55 were to be extended to Manhattan, making former stops of the former 3rd Avenue Elevated on the East Side.
checkmatechamp13 Posted December 30, 2010 Share #100 Posted December 30, 2010 What if Third Avenue were made into an +SBS+ corridor, and you had the route combined with the M15 +SBS+? From Fordham Plaza to South Ferry, the trip would be about 2 hours, comparable to the M5 route.
