Changes to Bx8 with a New BX4A and Bx24 Buses

yep, that's what they wanted... the Bx8 OUT of their neighborhood, and their own lil shuttle to/from the subway.

and as for that last statement you made:

I'll be the first one cheering in elation when that happens !

Main reason why they wanted it out, they didnt like the CNG buses....what the hell kind of bullshit excuse is that? They were complaining that the CNG buses were too loud and there's "too frequent" service, like wtf?! Now they gotta deal with 30 minute headways on that Bx24 with probably even louder and probably more raggedy buses (if it runs out of Eastchester...)

How much you wanna bet that they will throw a fit over the 30 minute headways and the type of buses running on the line....

Those who did complain about the buses were on Stadium Avenue, whom most have probably never lived on a street with a bus route. They haven't dealt with this before June, so I'm not too surprised about these Country Club riders.

As for the new Bx24, my guess is that they'll demand that it gets extended to Westchester Square for the shopping access to the Square and to Crosby Avenue.

As for the Bx5, I think the MTA didn't reroute this bus because there wasn't that much demand for it on Bruckner Blvd between Country Club Road and Crosby/Logan Avs. The Q50's added stop at Baisley Av sufficed since most on that portion on Bruckner are drivers.

I still think the (Bx5) should go back on Bruckner. Crosby doesn't really need 2 buses. As for Country Club, this is a temporary victory for them. I presume the Bx24 will be a TA route from Gun Hill.

They already have the Q50 but idk if it makes a lot of stops on Bruckner?

lol... Of course....

I think I made this point in an older thread/post....

People that complain about TOO MUCH bus service, you cannot satisfy...

If frequency's too high, they'll bitch about 'x' amount of buses in their neighborhood...

If frequency's too low, they'll bitch about inadequate service - even though they don't take the damned things on any type of regular basis....

There is no "just right" in the equation, if you're wondering... very dualistic type of people...

Problem is, is that they want just enough bus service to where they can take it at THEIR leisure, on THEIR terms (of course, neglecting the fact that it's PUBLIC transportation)... but at the same time, wanting to live & maintain that quiet, lax, "noise & air pollution" free type of (quality) lifestyle that was most likely the determining factor to even moving to such an area....

It's all like dividing by zero, bro...

But is the ridership high between Parkchester and Tremont Avenue?

As far as the old Bx14 vs. the Bx4, is there more demand for travel from Parkchester towards The Hub, or Parkchester towards Pelham Bay Park/Country Club? I would probably say The Hub, since there is more activity in that direction.

few people took the old bx14 b/w E tremont av & PBP (Westchester sq. included)....

..and to be honest, I don't think there's heavy demand for bus service IN Parkchester, to(wards) either the two areas.... PARKchesterians (lol) love themselves that (6) [much like PARK Slope love themselves that (F)]

it's one of those things where, if the bx4 is right there, they'll take it... but if it's no where in sight, they'll take the train.... you'll find a slightly higher concentration of people @ Westchester Sq. embarking on the 4 towards the hub, than you will at Hugh Grant Cir....

Once this Bx4a comes to pass, I seriously think that last statement I made, might change.... This is good for the core route though, at least it'll cease the whole "all of the route parallels the subway, and thus it'll make it easier to cut it" argument....

When will the new BX4A, BX8, BX24, and Q50 schedules be posted? I haven't seen anything yet.

Assuming you meant online, I have no clue. But I saw the schedule for the Bx4A at Westchester Square on Monday (yes I was out there... wasn't good) while I was waiting for the Bx31. I would have taken a picture, but the strong winds didn't help too much.

The Bx24 has the same schedule every day. Instead of printing the same thing three times, it would have made more sense to print one set of times and label it, "Every Day Service."

I, for one, don't expect the "daily" schedule. I did a double take when I saw that on an NJT 559 schedule (the only route like that?). When people just look at the schedule, they assume the first one is weekday, the second one is Saturday... It might give the impression this is a weekday-only route.

Bx24 runs a bit later than the Bx23 to/from Pelham Bay.

http://mta.info/nyct/bus/schedule/bronx/bx024cur.pdf

Bx23 needs service out of Pelham Bay after 10pm a lot more than the Bx24 (which will likely be empty).

The Bx24 should have all runs after 8:30pm cut and use the savings to extend the 11:30pm Sunday night Bx39 to Clason Pt (instead of being a shuttle to Gun Hill Rd).

Bx23 is reimbursed by NYC so that route should run until 11pm at least.

Interesting that the new schedules are up, but not the new Bronx map. Meanwhile, the new Brooklyn map was posted at least a week ago.

That is a good idea (it would give Country Club direct access to Bay Plaza and all of the connections available in Co-Op City), but I think Country Club would prefer to remain isolated from the rest of The Bronx. (That is why they complained about the Bx8 running through the neighborhood-they felt that it would bring in "outsiders")

The Bx14 had lower headways compared to what the Bx24 has, so if they dont want outsiders, then why have higher headways.. Unless its for thos around parkchester?
