MHV9218 Posted January 2, 2014 Share #10501 Posted January 2, 2014 All the buses with chains at College Point can't go more than 20 mph. Everybody's late and bunching like hell. Same thing out of Manhattanville. Bunch of M1s running Limited for the PM Rush, always a surprise to see.

GojiMet86 Posted January 2, 2014 Share #10503 Posted January 2, 2014 Talking about Mannyville...... http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/03/nyregion/snow-storm-new-york-city-northeast.html?ref=nyregion&_r=0 Andrea Mohin/The New York Times At the Manhattanville Bus Depot, Carlos Galindo attaches bus chains in preparation for the expected snowstorm. ......The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said it was planning to salt train platforms and send out “de-icers” and “snow and ice-busting equipment” to keep outdoor subway tracks, switches and third rails clear as the snow fell. While the underground system should otherwise be unaffected, the authority said that outdoor stretches of the Rockaway, Sea Beach, Brighton and Dyre Avenue lines were particularly vulnerable to snow. Some subway trains were to be moved underground to prevent them from being stuck in chilly outdoor storage yards, even though parking them inside could limit express service on some lines. Platforms on the Metro-North Railroad and the Long Island Rail Road were also being salted, the transit agency said, and the railroads were turning on devices to heat their switches, lubricate them and treat them with “antifreeze agents.” With airline cancellations or delays expected, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey urged travelers to check on the status of their flights in advance. The storm will be the first in which the transit agencies are interacting with the de Blasio administration, but officials’ conversations will probably feel familiar. Adam Lisberg, the chief spokesman for the transportation authority, said the primary points of contact in city government, particularly at the Office of Emergency Management, were essentially unchanged. Mr. de Blasio has asked top officials at the sanitation and emergency management agencies to stay on the job temporarily.
trainfan22 Posted January 2, 2014 Share #10504 Posted January 2, 2014 Seeing all these buses with chains reminds me of when I rode a chained M60 over the Triborough a few years ago.... very noisy at highway speeds.
MHV9218 Posted January 2, 2014 Share #10505 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) No artics at all tomorrow according to one news source. Can't quite believe that as depots like Tuskegee don't have enough 40-footers to make due. My bet is the same we saw the other weekend, 40-footers on the 23/60/79/103, 9/12/15/19, 44. Could be entertaining though. Brave the cold if you want your 40-footers. Edited January 2, 2014 by MHV9218

GojiMet86 Posted January 3, 2014 Share #10510 Posted January 3, 2014 5015 is on the M60 right now. Managed to catch it a few minutes ago. It was stuck, though, at LGA for a bit.

aemoreira81 Posted January 3, 2014 Share #10512 Posted January 3, 2014 Not all the bus stops have the bustime paper in the guide a ride yet in Queens and Brooklyn. By the way are the 1999 NF D60HF, 1996 RTS and 1995/1996 Ex beeline Orion V's going to have bustime enabled on them? The 1996 RTSs, yes. The 1999 D60HFs, some only. The ex-Bees, I doubt it. Unrelated: outside of Manhattan Division, all articulated buses are parked. Even the Bx12 SBS and Bx41 SBS are being run with rigids.

Yeah just like one the service announcements they had for Riverdale some weeks ago... They listed streets that didn't even exist.... "Henry Hudson Parkway North" (doesn't exist) and Kappock Avenue (It's Kappock Street). The real kicker was H. Hudson Parkway North though because we have Henry Hudson Parkway West and Henry Hudson Parkway East, so we had no idea where in the hell the buses were running. Luckily they were running where we were waiting.

The only question I have is, where is the (outbound) QM5 entering the LIE from..... The listed change isn't in any type of order/structure, which is why it's confusing on the surface.... The gist of the change is to bypass the part of the QM5 b/w [188th/73rd] & [Little Neck Pkwy/260th]..... Things to note: - The normal last dropoff stop on the QM5 is at Union Tpke/260th st (NW corner, on union tpke) - The normal first pickup stop on the QM5 is at Union Tpke/260th st (NE corner, on 260th st) Instead of diverting outbound buses to travel along Union Tpke b/w [QB & LNP] (like the QM6 already does, en route to NST), they're having QM5's go LIE > Clearview > Union Tpke > LNP > 260th - then outbound buses would run down 260th from LNP to Union Tpke (which is what they mean by "regular route to 260 st)... Inbound buses are the buses that "will not service bus stops from 260 St & Union Tpke to 260 St & Little Neck Pkwy." Instead, they'll continue along Union Tpke from 260th to the Clearview.... The current last dropoff stop of the QM5 with this change, will also be the first pickup stop.....

MTA Bus Posted January 3, 2014 Share #10518 Posted January 3, 2014 is there only any other mta bus route that uses only 1 destination code because i only see b74 buses signed to CI when going out to sea gate also i wonder what is considered the senior route at flatbush? The B74 has two codes. The drivers at UP don't use the other code however.
XcelsiorBoii4888 Posted January 3, 2014 Share #10519 Posted January 3, 2014 Theres no point. Its a loop route..even though its highest point is Sea Gate W 37st. The drivers leave it as stillwell ave. Usually you see rookies starting their run it says Sea Gate W 37 St then eventually they change it to Stillwell Ave and leave it as that

XcelsiorBoii4888 Posted January 3, 2014 Share #10521 Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) They could and should use the West 37th street destination... Destinations exist for a reason... Why? If you think about it..the B74 isnt a tourist route...it just relieves stress from the B36. Provides service in the middle coney island. Everyone who uses the B74 lives on Coney Island. So no point of the Sea Gate W37 st sign. A destination sign is used when there is a last stop. Only last stop on the 74 is stillwell. The B74 goes down mermaid around the back of coney island, and back down mermaid to stillwell. So the Stillwell Ave destination code is more useful and convient because It technically is going to Stillwell ave in a circle. XcelsiorBoii4888 Posted January 4, 2014 Share #10525 Posted January 4, 2014 Interesting... It's a loop route, check it out. It starts at Stillwell Ave & runs down Mermaid Ave (middle ave of Coney Island), then makes a right at W 37th street (last block of Coney Island). Then it runs down 37th St to Bayview Ave (other end of Coney Island) and makes a right on W 33rd street (because that's the next block south that runs to Mermaid Ave). Then it runs down 33rd Street to Mermaid Ave, turns left and runs back to Stillwell Ave This video shows it starting around 29th St on Mermaid, then turning right on 37th, turning right on Bayview, turning right on 33rd St. But it ends one block from Mermaid, where it would turn left.
