Unplanned Subway Service Changes

Ah, more Queens Plaza drama. Does the fun ever stop? At least LIRR are accepting MetroCard and OMNY between Jamaica and Penn.

(E)(F)(M)(R) trains are delayed and rerouted in Queens while we address a network communication issue near Queens Plaza.

(E)

Trains are running on the local track between Forest Hills-71 Av and Queens Plaza

(F)

Trains are running on the local track between Forest Hills-71 Av and 21 St-Queensbridge.

To alleviate congestion, the last stop on some northbound (F) trains will be 4 Av-9 St, Jay St-MetroTech or 34 St-Herald Sq.

(M)

Trains are running between Middle Village-Metropolitan Av and Chambers St on the (J)

For service to Forest Hills, take the (E)(F)(R).

Expect delays in (R) train service as they share the same track with rerouted trains.

LIRR is accepting MetroCard and OMNY users at no additional cost at Jamaica, Kew Gardens, Forest Hills and Penn Station.

Just like with all the new subway lines they build, they don't bother with redundancy. Anyone running critical infrastructure should be building in redundancy—hot spares for storage devices, a redundant cluster of computers, backup connections, and all of it not found under one toolshed/cable conduit.

This is a good one.

W service is suspended in both directions. We're running as much service as we can with the train crews we have available.

Alternatives

Between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and 34 St-Herald Sq, take N trains.

Between Lexington Av/59 St and Whitehall St-South Ferry, take R trains.

I forgot where I saw this, but someone wants to sue the MTA for the unreliable CBTC signal installation along Queens Blvd since that's the 13th shutdown this year.

I wouldn't blame them, especially with all the G.Os and heavy delays we had to deal with during installation.

(N)(Q)(R)(W) trains are partially suspended and experiencing major delays because of two incidents:

Emergency teams are responding to someone who was struck by a train on the Manhattan Bridge.

We're investigating what activated a train's brakes in the tunnel between Manhattan and Queens

(N) Service

There is no service between Lexington Av/59 St and Queensboro Plaza in either direction.

(N) trains are running in two sections:

Between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and Lexington Av/59 St (via the (R) between Canal St and DeKalb Av in both directions)

Shuttle train service between Queensboro Plaza and Astoria-Ditmars Blvd

(Q) Service

(Q) trains are running on the (R) line between Canal St and DeKalb Av in both directions.

(R) Service

There is no southbound (R) service at Queens Plaza, Lexington Av/59 St, or 5 Av/59 St.

Southbound (R) trains are running on the (F) line from 36 St (Queens) to Lexington Av/63 St and then on the F line to 57 St-7 Av.

(W) Service

There is no service between 57 St-7 Av and Astoria-Ditmars Blvd.

(W) trains are running only between Whitehall St-South Ferry and 57 St-7 Av and the on the (Q) line to/from 96 St, the last stop.

(N)(Q)(R)(W) trains are rerouted and experiencing major delays because of multiple incidents:

We're working to repair a signal problem that has activated multiple trains' brakes in the tunnel from Queens to Manhattan.

We're working to get trains back on schedule after someone was struck by a train on the Manhattan Bridge

Someone is being disruptive at Times Sq-42 St.

Here are details on how service is running:

Many southbound N R trains are running on their regular route between Queens and Manhattan, but some R trains are running on the F line from 36 St to Lexington Av/63 St, then on the (Q) line to 57 St-7 Av.

Northbound (N)(R)(W) trains are holding in stations in Manhattan.

(W) departures from Astoria and Whitehall St are temporarily suspended.

Alternatives - Queens - (N)(W)

Take M60-SBS buses between Astoria Blvd and (A)(B)(C) (D), (2) (3), (4)(5)(6) stations on 125 St.

Take M102 buses for local service in Astoria.

Transfer to/from (7) trains at Queensboro Plaza for service to/from Manhattan.

Alternatives - Queens - (R)

Take (E)(F)(M)(R)(7) trains.

Alternatives- Manhattan

Take nearby (4)(5) (6), (B)(D)(F)(M) and (1)(2)(3) trains. Transfer at Lexington Av/59 St, 34 St-Herald Sq and Times Sq-42 St.

Alternatives - Brooklyn

For (Q) service, take (B)(2)(5) trains.

For (N) service, take (D) trains.

For (R) service, take B37 and B63 buses.

There is no southbound (R) service at Queensboro Plaza, Lexington Av/59 St or 5 Av/59 St while we repair a signal problem in the tunnel between Queens and Manhattan.

Southbound (R) trains are running on the F line from 36 St (Queens) to Lexington Av/63 St and then on the (Q) line to 57 St-7 Av.

Southbound (N)(W) trains are running at slower speeds from Queensboro Plaza to Lexington Av/59 St.

(N)(Q)(R)(W) trains are also experiencing delays in both directions after someone was struck by a train earlier on the Manhattan Bridge.

What a huge mess. A real triple whammy (signal problem in 60th, disruptive passenger at Times Sq, person struck by train on Manny B). Yet somehow I was able to get a (Q) train at Canal St just after 5 pm today, with another one just two minutes behind (according to the countdown clock, anyway). But the clock said the following trains, an (N) and another (Q), were 15 and 19 minutes away.

Merry Christmas!

Part Suspended

(M) trains are running between Myrtle Av and Middle Village-Metropolitan Av in both directions.

For service between Myrtle Av and Delancey St-Essex St, take the (J) train.

We're running as much service as we can with the crews we have available.
