The (J) is affected by the (M) between Essex St and Myrtle Av-Broadway, but the (M) affects it more because the (M) runs with all other lines that run along QBL. Those lines are also indirectly affected by literally every other B division line in the system aside from the (L) and Franklin Av (S)huttle. Even the <M> (imagine this as a circle) still affects the (J) because it ran into South Brooklyn and along West End which ran with the (B) (pre-2000) to later the current (D) service, both being IND lines.

Under average conditions, the (J) isn't mired by the (M) and I've lived off the (J) for nearly 3 decades to say that I wasn't routinely delayed by the (J) sharing tracks with the (M). Limiting factors affecting run time are more dependent on the series of timers and track geometry of the line, especially between Marcy Avenue and Essex Street.

@texassubwayfan555

what you're thinking is a 12-9 isn't a 12-9.

Specifically, "12-9" is the radio code for person UNDER the train. getting struck by a train isn't inherently a 12-9 situation. and a person can and do survive being under the train so long as they're in the right spot.

Rather interesting they're sending some (E) to Brooklyn because of this:

Some Reroutes

Some southbound (E) trains are running on the (F) line from W 4 St-Wash Sq to 2 Av, Bergen St or Church Av.

(A)(C)(E)(F) trains are delayed in both directions while we work to address a signal problem near World Trade Center.

Additional Service Changes:

Some southbound (C) trains are running on the (F) line from W 4 St-Wash Sq to Jay St-MetroTech.

Bergen St? Do they discharge passengers at Jay Street?

There's a switch on the upper level on the local tracks between Bergen and Carroll. I would have sent those (E) Express to Chruch Ave and return to Manhattan via the Express tracks.... so those E's wouldn't tie up the road.

A few years ago the (E) was sent to Euclid via the Fulton express.

I think that was a Weekend G.O for the (E)

They probably tried not to send the (E) too far so that the runtimes were similar and to not spread the service to Queens too thin.

Part Suspended

N‌o southbound (A) service from Jay St-MetroTech to Euclid Av.

(C) train service between Euclid Av and 168 St has been suspended.

What's Happening?

We're conducting urgent track maintenance near Jay St-MetroTech.

Additional Service Changes:

Southbound (A) trains are running on the (F) line from W 4 St-Wash Sq to Jay St-MetroTech.

The last stop on some southbound (A) trains will be 2 Av on the (F) line or World Trade Center on the (E) line.

Expect delays in (A)(E)(F) service.

The last stop on southbound (A) trains will be Chambers St or Jay St-MetroTech.

(A) trains are making all local stops in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Alternative Service:

For service between Manhattan and Brooklyn, consider a (2)(3)(4)(5)(D)(F)(J)(L) train.

For service in Brooklyn, consider a B25 bus.

For service in The Rockaways, consider a Q22 bus.

From Broadway Junction to Manhattan, transfer to a (J)(L) train.

LIRR is cross-honoring between Far Rockaway and Penn Station.

See a station agent for a free courtesy pass to continue your trip.

Avoid (D)(N) trains.

(D)(N) service is suspended in parts of Brooklyn and is extremely limited.

We expect (D)(N) service will be disrupted through this evening.

What's Happening?

Our signaling system near Coney Island-Stillwell Av was damaged, and our signal maintenance teams are working to determine what repairs are needed.

Couldn't they have had the (Q) continue to Sheepshead Bay and terminate there?

I read this several times over along with the post you quoted and is still confused.... Brighton Beach is railroad south of Sheepshead Bay, coming from Manthattan on the Brighton line, Sheepshead Bay is the stop before Brighton Beach.

My bad, I was thinking Ocean Parkway, the stop AFTER Brighton Beach going south.

Part Suspended

No (3) between Fulton St and 96 St.

(2) via (5) between Nevins St and 149 St-Grand Concourse both directions.

No (1) between 14 St and South Ferry.

Emergency services are responding to a water main break at Canal St.

For travel alternatives between Brooklyn and Manhattan, consider using (N)(Q)(R)(A)(C)(F)(4) trains.

Why couldn’t the (3) turn around at Chambers St (coming from Brooklyn)? Was it due to how the power system is set up there that the (3) has to relay north of Chambers St as if headed towards Franklin St and that section of track was out of service??

also why couldn’t the (3) terminate at 34 St Penn Station or Times Sq-42 St (coming from 148 St)?

That’s a good point, but I think the issue is they didn’t want to use lightly used switches to turn trains around, then risking those switches getting stuck in the wrong positions.

Technically the (B) and (Q) could have both terminated at Brighton Beach, since the (Q) and <Q> did it in 2002-2004 while Stillwell Av was closed for rehabilitation along with Ocean Parkway, West 8 St, and Neptune Av., but maybe that goes back to the same problem I just mentioned. The (B) would have used the northbound platform and the (Q) using the southbound platform.
