R32 3352 Posted May 30, 2012 Share #1 Posted May 30, 2012 So, today, I was checking out nycsubway.org, which is a great website for pictures of subways if you don't know, and found something very surprising. Under each model car (e.g. R160, R142), they have the routes said model runs on. Under the R62, it showed the 1, 3, 4, and 7. This was very surprising to me as I thought all of the Lexington Avenue Line was NTT. Has anyone actually seen these on the 4 in the past 10 or so years? I remember them dominating the Lexington before the 142s came in, but I digress. If anyone has actually seen these in the past decade, please comment. Because I'm rather interested to know when and if they're running on that line again. -Nick
Jdog14 Posted May 30, 2012 Share #2 Posted May 30, 2012 I saw a R62 4 around 2005/6. Have not seen one since.
Guest Lance Posted May 30, 2012 Share #3 Posted May 30, 2012 There was also at least one set on the back in 2008 when the R142s were undergoing scheduled maintenance.
Kacie Jane Posted May 30, 2012 Share #4 Posted May 30, 2012 Probably just outdated information. If you look closely, there's still a brown M on the map on nycsubway.org's home page. IIRC, there were R62s on the 4 longer than either of the other Lexington Avenue lines, but not anymore.

R32 3352 Posted May 30, 2012 Author Share #11 Posted May 30, 2012 I think it's been updated recently though. For example it's taken 68s off the N and the 32s off all lines except the C. I'm not really sure.

Brighton Express Posted May 31, 2012 Share #13 Posted May 31, 2012 I rode on one in about 2003-2005, I was very small, can't remember the exact date. The RFW was awesome.
Princelex Posted May 31, 2012 Share #14 Posted May 31, 2012 The last R62 that was on the was back in early 2009. It's nothing but NTT's on Lexington Ave now.

Guest Lance Posted May 31, 2012 Share #17 Posted May 31, 2012 As I've said before, nycsubway.org is basically a one-man operation and it's a big site. Some of the information may be updated occasionally, but, outside of the photo updates, sections of the site are quite dated. For up to date information, I'd recommend using this site or TTMG.org before going to nycsubway.org.
sconnick Posted May 31, 2012 Share #18 Posted May 31, 2012 The photos on nycsubway.org are updated/added to very frequently. The rest of the site, not so much. But like someone else mentioned, it's pretty much a one-man show there, and it's a GREAT resource for photos.

GojiMet86 Posted June 17, 2012 Share #20 Posted June 17, 2012 R62 trains were all that ran for many years on the Lexington line. They also ran on the for a very long time, before the R142 came. There also hasn't been an R62 on the in a long time.

This, right here, is the difference between an ordinary rider and a railfan summed up perfectly.
Snowblock Posted June 18, 2012 Share #23 Posted June 18, 2012 The latest story I've been hearing is that the R62A's from Corona are going to ultimately land in MOSHOLU, as Westchester Yard may have issues handling the maintenance of them. Not quite the 62 original, but close enough.
Eric B Posted June 18, 2012 Share #24 Posted June 18, 2012 What I heard from someone was that they were going to the , which I think would be crazy. They said, IIRC, some political pressure if trying to get them not to go to the , and then the entire West Side would be 62/62A, and the East side would be NTT. But I said the is where they should go, then, but it seemed they're trying to keep that as the showcase line on the A Div. Since the and half the got all the new cars in the last generation, while the (and the other half of the ) got only redbird rebuilds, then the NTT's should have just gone to those lines, and the just stick with its last generation cars. Maybe spruce up the interiors, so they don't look as dim and old.
Fan Railer Posted June 18, 2012 Share #25 Posted June 18, 2012 If the R62As really do go to the , I wonder if they would bother to link the singles into permanent 5 car sets. And unless they implement 4 peak hour express in the bronx, then those LED indicators on the side panels would be a huge waste on the .
