Lance Posted October 25, 2018 Share #2279 Posted October 25, 2018 On 10/21/2018 at 4:58 PM, S78 via Hylan said: Two issues with that: If there’s flagging/track work on 4th Ave, then throwing the into it won’t help matters as that would increase delays up and down the line. Secondly, replacing a line that uses 600’ trains with one that uses 480’ will not do any justice either since it would represent a service cut. Before anyone says anything, I know that the is replacing the to 96 St for a few weekends, but that’s only a few stops compared to a large section. If extra service is really needed, the would be the better option. Leave the as it is. The 480 ft vs 600 ft is not as big an issue as you'd think. The problem is however just as you mentioned. If there is a slow speed order in place along 4th Avenue, running another line down there will not do anything but delay the whole corridor even further. Also, the extension of either the or the affects riders up the line, the former along the Jamaica line and the latter on Broadway and more importantly in Queens, where it needs to act as a bridge for the suspended . There are two ways Transit can handle such an extension: add more trains or extend the intervals between them. We all know what they'll choose, thus spreading the pain even further across the system. 6 hours ago, S78 via Hylan said: No service east of Crescent St: Nov 10-11, 17-18 The will see Jamaica on a weekend? Is that even allowed?
Lance Posted October 27, 2018 Share #2280 Posted October 27, 2018 (edited) So, it appears they're explaining why some lines are running at reduced intervals under the header Modified Service. Their reasoning kind of makes sense in regards to some of the lines affected. However, as usual, there are those that are simply headscratchers, like this one: Quote MODIFIED SCHEDULE Oct 27 - 28 Saturday & Sunday Trains run every 12 minutes, days and evenings trains run on a modified scheduled due to additional weekend service running between Astoria, Queens and Whitehall St, Manhattan. You know, there's a really quick way to fix this: run the express. Even with the Queens Blvd handicap, the combined and should be able to handle the five Broadway local stops between 57 Street and Canal St on their own without necessary assistance from the . Also, there's some good news and some bad news on the Sea Beach rehab project. The good news is that Coney Island-bound service at Kings Highway, Avenue U and 86 Street is finally back. The bad news: the rest of the stations will not reopen until sometime next Spring. No slack vs all the slack. A middle ground would be nice. I think there’s also work being done at 57 St-7 Av putting in the new platform edge strips. But overall, it’s a way to provide the additional service from Astoria to manhattan but doing so with as minimal service as possible.

With the being out there is no Broadway Express. Instead of sending the express and having the and handle Broadway Local on their own, they want to send all three on one track. Like that isn't a disaster waiting to happen.

They're probably doing something either on the bridge or around a switch that prevents service from going via the Bridge & Broadway Express. But yeah, let there be a switch problem or a signal problem somewhere along the way, and RIP Broadway Line.

Lance Posted October 31, 2018 Share #2287 Posted October 31, 2018 This is why I miss the full explanations they used to put out in the press releases back in the day. Something like that would go a long way to explaining why certain services can't run despite no obvious service change posted on the site. Using the above example, unless you were travelling down Broadway and paying attention to what was happening along the express tracks, you'd never know why they couldn't run those trains as expresses, thus removing that 12 minute interval G.O.
