R188 Discussion Thread

You're going to start to find that they are everywhere now.... especially during the weekends, last weekend I'm guessing that it was 50% R188 and 50% R62A. I've been catching R188's easily for the past few weeks, with the exception of one going via Flushing Express to Manhattan.

On another note, does anyone have a clue as to what's with 7860-7870? I saw that set sitting in the yard on Saturday, and I haven't seen it in service for a while. It seems that the two mis-matched sets are seeing service the least, they're already running 7877-7887 pretty much daily (with the exception of maybe a day or two) and same case with 7888-7898.

7877-87 had its share of growing pains, I remember this. I originally caught it way back in April only to see it testing even still on the Sea Beach months later this summer. Its about time they got that set in service.

I heard the reason it was testing so late was because 7879 had compressor problems. If you watch the news video of the R188s posted here a little while back, while the news media was there, 7879 was having it's compressor installed. The worker could have easily gotten distracted, but that's my guess. There could have been many other problems I was unawhere of with that set.

Same. Thats what I figured too. Compressor problems could have initially caused the delay.

So as of right now how many R142A/R188 sets are assigned to Corona? The last time I rode the (7) back in July I was surprised to see Flushing Main St full of NTT's. Of course I got on the dirty R142A and I knew that I could have waited 3 more minutes for the new R188 to leave. I must have seen about 3 or 4 R188's while I rode to 74th street.

All eight new sets, plus the current converted sets (7211-7250) and probably 7251-7260 but I'm not sure where that set is at the moment.

Rode the (7) today. R188s running were:

7811-21

7822-32

7833-43

7844-54

7855-59, 71-76

7877-87

7888-98

7221-7900-7230

7231-7901-7240

7241-7902-7250

They did a nice job of cleaning 7241-7250. The lights seemed clean and brighter, the seats, floors, walls and doors seemed clean. I stepped aboard 7242 to see what had been done. It didn't look too bad. Only one of the storm doors had rust marks (the brown dots R188 7857 was mentioning) on it. Nice to see that Corona is cleaning up the converts. Didn't step aboard 7241, I was "scared" lol. No, not really, just walked to 7242 which seemed the cleanest.

Should have went on 7241, I'd like to know if they put a subway map in that car yet.... Last time I checked, there was no subway map and not even a plastic covering on it.

I would show you a picture and video of 7241/2 but I'm still trying to figure out how to import media. I don't know how to do that yet.

When Bombardier has resolved their welding problems with the R179 and the first of the R179s are being delivered, I will move to that thread. LOL.

(Y) (Y) (Y)

Don't worry, mah man. Comment on whatever thread, whenever, where ever. Its your decision to do anything here, but don't get TOO comfortable. No harsh feelings :P
