Fan Railer Posted August 18, 2014 Share #4351 Posted August 18, 2014 7211-7220 has CBTC installed already, and was undergoing CBTC testing in the yard but I didn't see it the other day. 7221-7230 is probably the best condition conversion set out there,, at least on 7230 they fixed up some door stickers (the ones from the were distorted and ripped) and was cleaned up a bit. 7241 is absolute disgusting.... air bubbles in the floor, RUST, vandalism, brown dots on the cab door (wtf?)...... By the way, they do way more than add CBTC equipment/change strip maps. They have to rewire the cab and the cab area, do a lot of wiring.... Yeah 7261-7270 was in testing in the Rockaways not even a few days ago from when it had its third rail contact shoes installed at Pitkin. They really was pushing to get that set out quickly.

Quill Depot Posted August 22, 2014 Share #4366 Posted August 22, 2014 Is it still "rare" to catch an R188 on a weekday during peak?
T J Trainman Posted August 22, 2014 Share #4367 Posted August 22, 2014 No, There should be plenty of them during the rush hours.
R188 7857 Posted August 22, 2014 Share #4368 Posted August 22, 2014 You're going to start to find that they are everywhere now.... especially during the weekends, last weekend I'm guessing that it was 50% R188 and 50% R62A. I've been catching R188's easily for the past few weeks, with the exception of one going via Flushing Express to Manhattan. On another note, does anyone have a clue as to what's with 7860-7870? I saw that set sitting in the yard on Saturday, and I haven't seen it in service for a while. It seems that the two mis-matched sets are seeing service the least, they're already running 7877-7887 pretty much daily (with the exception of maybe a day or two) and same case with 7888-7898.

I have almost NEVER seen 7860-70 in service. 7877 seems to be trailing 7876 everytime, everytime 7876 leaves GC, 7877 is the following train. I have seen 7876 a lot recently. Haven't been on the 7 in over a week though. I have been on every R188 set with the exception of 7822-32 and some of the converts, though I had a very easy chance to board 7832 many times. I have only seen 7860-70 in service ONCE out of all the times I have been on the 7 this year. I don't know what is happening with that set.

EDIT: By the way, the vandalism set (7833-7843) now has a new case, 7835 has a scratchitti'd window. These things are getting beat up FAST! 7844-7854 has brakes that don't sound normal, rather a bit intense/screechy. Actually, when 7860-7870 was still new, I got to ride on 7865 and 7866 by luck twice. On one of the G/O's where trains terminated at 74th Street, I got off 7857 for the next train going to Queensboro, and got on 7867. Then I kept seeing that set for a few more times, until I didn't see it much again. My goal is to be on every end of a set, so here's my progress: 7811/7821: Done 7822/7832: Done 7833/7843: Still need to be on 7833 7844/7854: Done 7866-7870, 7860-7865: Done 7855-7859, 7871-7876: Still need to be on 7855, although I have been on 7857. 7877-7887: Have never been on it once, although I did have an opportunity to get on 7877. 7888-7898: Done. 7221-7230: Still need to be on 7221. 7231-7240: Haven't been on it yet, though I did have an opportunity to get on 7240. 7241-7250: Still need to be on 7250. Not to sound too much like a foamer though! Going back to 7860-7870, I've been on that set 3 different times and I have seen it many more times.. though it was said that 7868 had stuck brakes/dead motors making it screechy. I heard it myself seeing it once, but I'm not sure if it's OOS due to that reason. Edited August 22, 2014 by R188 7857
Fan Railer Posted August 22, 2014 Share #4371 Posted August 22, 2014 Yea, at this point, R188's being in service aren't that special anymore. You rarely have to wait more than 10-15 minutes for one to show up. And I swear, 7888-7898 have been stalking me for the last month since I first rode it back before it had ads. 3/5 times it's the train I catch, and every other time, it's the train that follows the train I catch, or it's the train that's pulling into the lower level of Queensboro as I walk down from the upper level to exit the station. That, or I'm walking to lunch from the office (north of queensboro to south of queensboro) and that set passes overhead.

But now, it seems like every set's my stalker.... 85% of my train rides now are R188... Tech And Transit Posted August 22, 2014 Share #4373 Posted August 22, 2014 7832s my stalker. Although I have never rode that set. I just let it pass by. I looked for that set the first week it hit service but all I found that time was 7821. By the time I first saw 7832, 7876 was out and running and I was looking for the newest set. Now I always look for 7881, which has been fairly easy to do. I've only had to wait a couple of trains before it shows up. And the first time I saw it (I think only a week after it had been testing in Sea Beach) I walked down the steps at Times Square and saw 7881-7882 waiting. Still trying to find a time to ride 7832.
R142A7565 Posted August 22, 2014 Share #4374 Posted August 22, 2014 At least there is no problem with R188 conversion #7221 - #7280 ( 70 conversion cars ) recently..
