I hear of a SMS-ish maintenance of the R42s that is occuring (starting with a few cars).

They still look beat the hell up. It's amazing how the R32's are older but look much better than the R42's The R40M's should have been spared instead of the R42s IMO. Edited by VIP

they will last 'till 2019 or 2020, but I hope they come back to QBL for something other than work service on the garbage trains.

LONG LIVE R32s!

This is a Manhattan bound garbage train. The next stop is Queens Landfill. Stand clear of the closing doors, please, and mind the smell.

The photo isn't mine btw. Posted by some transit employee at the Coney Island Overhaul Shop or whoever else was there.

Yo that R42 is looking fresh. I haven't seen them that shiny before. I want to catch one before they start rusting and looking crappy again Edited by NewFlyer 230

Why didn't they SMS them when the R32 got theirs?

Because TA thought they were retiring them in 2013-2016 but with the R179 order being delayed and needing additional trains, they have to SMS these, the R32's is due for another SMS in 2018, but might be pushed forward between 2016-17 so they can keep em running for the next 7-9 years

ENY seems to be taking care of both the R42's and R32's well because it seemed like 207 just said whatever with some of those R32's.

Them R32s wouldn't be at the bottom of the barrel in terms of reliability if the R32s were taken care of..

These cars are 52 years old and there is still a decent number of them left in service so the number to average is higher.

The R42's did improve slightly so they are caring for them a bit better.

I'm not surprised the R32's decreased in MDBF because these trains were designed to be retired about 10 years ago. All you need is the R32's to start dropping like flies and then you are really in trouble.
