BreeddekalbL Posted May 5, 2017 Share #3726 Posted May 5, 2017 dumb question are the 160's getting swapped to 207 due to politics since the hipsters are complaining?
Lance Posted May 5, 2017 Share #3727 Posted May 5, 2017 Probably not. If anything, the riders in Williamsburg would likely call for more 160s to come back from 207th Street as opposed to the current outflows.
RailRunRob Posted May 5, 2017 Share #3728 Posted May 5, 2017 dumb question are the 160's getting swapped to 207 due to politics since the hipsters are complaining? What's the shade with hipsters? MHV9218 Posted May 5, 2017 Share #3729 Posted May 5, 2017 dumb question are the 160's getting swapped to 207 due to politics since the hipsters are complaining? No. You're always obsessed with this idea that "hipsters" dominate politics. If anything, upset aged UWS residents have led a campaign against the 32s.

I personally can't wait until the entire line is R179s.

RailRunRob Posted May 6, 2017 Share #3733 Posted May 6, 2017 Well they already started making the barn in fresh pond for the R32's for the shuttle in the fall. How's hard is the of maintenance on the R32's? Are parts harder to come by due to age? Or does the MTA create custom solutions to keep the fleet running? danielhg121 Posted May 6, 2017 Share #3734 Posted May 6, 2017 Maintenance of the R32's is really expensive as time goes by. It's hard to find parts and trains keep breaking down, it's certainly expensive because MTA keeps putting money in to maintain them. 50 million I believe to maintain the aging fleet. You can't create custom solutions with something that old. You need to install new hardware. I mean at the end of the day you're installing new hardware that it wasn't originally made to use. It's like rebuilding or putting a new engine in a 68 Mustang. You can't create custom solutions with something that old. You need to install new hardware. That's not completely true. Since the R32s are of the SMEE family, many parts are shared with other cars (a big advantage), plus there's parts from 32s that were reefed that they saved. And with the museum cars, many parts are made in-house

MHV9218 Posted May 7, 2017 Share #3738 Posted May 7, 2017 (edited) slow your roll im referencing that riders alliance protest where they were dressed like they were in the 1960's This is a picture from a recent Riders Alliance protest (featuring Yuki): It's not exactly a "hipster" crowd. That 1960s stunt was not about retro clothes; it was just to highlight the aged nature of the C train fleet. The councilman who attended was Robert Cornegy, who represents Bed-Stuy and the Crown Heights/Bed-Stuy contingent of C train riders. Wallyhorse Posted May 11, 2017 Share #3743 Posted May 11, 2017 The R32s are in much better shape than the R42s. It makes literally no sense to keep them. The R32s have already outlived three other car classes that came later: The R38s, R40s (both S and M) and R44s. Those cars have held up remarkably well for being 53 years old.
