Not really....they're not short. If I was told correctly, they retired 2096 and 2118, unconfirmed though.

It must have something to do with trying to average out the fleet in terms of age.  All of their local buses are from 2012, so that means getting some older express buses.  Either that or those QM5 and QM6 trips all the way out to Glen Oaks and Lake Success add on a nice amount of miles to their current fleet, as those two lines run 7 days a week, but then wouldn't it make sense not to give them older buses since that could mean more break downs?

Not necessarily, the older buses they've been getting lately have been performing pretty well compared to their time down at the Island, especially since they're only being used for like....2-4 trips per day(depending on the run). The 3000s are the mainstay of the fleet. These 2000s and 2900s are spares/extras and are primarily used during the Rush Hour.

I figured as much. If they only use them for rush hour then they can get more usage out of them until they're ready to retire them.
