realizm Posted September 15, 2014 Share #4292 Posted September 15, 2014 Heres a good scenario: Due to the ongoing Fix and Fortify program the Cranberry Street tubes on the A and C are shut down completely for the next 12 months. On top of that the Manhattan Bridge is closed on weekends on the south side of the bridge due to planned GOs due to signal upgrades (BMT Broadway Line) . How should we provide alternate service on all lines affected by the shutdown?
RollOver Posted September 15, 2014 Share #4293 Posted September 15, 2014 - via local & Rutgers - suspended entirely -Both 's and 's frequencies lowered a bit more during rush hour (about 20 tph northbound entering East Bway in the 8 a.m. hour and same 20 tph southbound leaving East Bway in the 5 p.m. hour), especially during the off-peak (where both lines each run at nearly 10 minute headways). If the delays become so bad at the merging areas where the is (including where the branches off at West 4th back to the 8th Ave trunk), short turn some trains at Jay St-MetroTech and reverse them back to Lefferts/Far Rock.

Eric B Posted September 16, 2014 Share #4298 Posted September 16, 2014 I would say the could still run in Brooklyn. From Euclid, it would run to High St. (keeping that station open), where the simply switches over to the line. Running the over with the would pose a big problem with the merging in, and though it is the new popular service, it is still the last priority on the IND when things are shaken up, so they might have to send it back down Nassau, or they would probably not do a full time shutdown at all. IF they did this, they would have to have a new replacement for it on Queens Blvd, and one that didn't get int he way at W4th. Since the would end up local anyway, you could just run a second Queens-8th Ave. service, from CTL, local and then on the express tracks in Manhattan, and terminate on the Chambers st. side of the Chambers-WTC station. (The actually did this on one or two of the recent G.O's, instead of 2nd Av. It used one track, while the in the other direction, running normally, ran through on the other). In this case, you would use both tracks, and have a four track WTC terminal. But then this might cause problems since there is no punch at 50th southbound, so they would have to spot over the radio, which wastes a lot of time. You might just have a circle and diamond E that both run express in Manhattan. So then, none of them would ever merge with the , and then they could all pull into the four track WTC terminal on whicever track becomes available first. This would also be the time they might beef up Nassau service to the South somehow, to draw people away fromt he IND, particularly now with the transfer at Jay-Metrotech. Perhaps some of those "(J) on a four minute headway" rumors were part of such a plan. The weekend scenario would simply be the same as typical weekend G.O.'s. on the bridge (all Bway service through the tunnel), and on the IND, the would still run Euclid-High (perhaps except nights, then the station would be closed).

Eric B Posted September 17, 2014 Share #4300 Posted September 17, 2014 (edited) I forgot about Spring St. in my idea above, so the <E> (from CTL replacing the ) would have to run local in Manhattan, but since it would be replacing the and probably run at a similar frequency, merging with the shouldn't be a problem. (But now they're saying it will be weekends only, so the weekday ideas are moot now anyway). Edited September 17, 2014 by Eric B
