FASTRACK Subway Repair Discussion

Here's how I understand it (if I'm wrong please correct me):

-Traditional FASTRACK: Suspension of a line segment every night for (typically) 4 consecutive overnight periods, between 10pm and 5am each night.

-Weekend Daytime FASTRACK: Sounds like a suspension of a line segment from 4am-10pm or 7am-7pm, something like that.

-One week FASTRACK: Suspension of a line segment for an entire week.

Regarding those one week FASTRACK's (if they are indeed 24-hours):

-The Nostrand line closure won't be a worst case scenario since that is Regents week: The HS students that arent testing probably don't have classes that week (1/21-25). Plus one of the days is MLK day. This could be ugly.

-Nassau line's a tossup

-Fourth Avenue south of 36th? Not so bad, we'll just see (N) trains on the West end and (R) trains heading into 9th Avenue.

-Closing CPW for a week would be quite a ballsy move. This one might be the ugliest one since the IRT would have to absorb the load (and they don't have much room.)

-Closing Rutgers would be a tossup as well.

Usually the MTA is on a regular (modified) weekday schedule on MLK Days.

I bet that by one week they mean the same as traditional, but no repeats, ie they'll only do it once in 2013 instead of once a quarter. There are other locations on the one week list which couldn't handle a continuous shutdown, that's what leads me to believe that.

Hmm good point. I'm sure the MTA wouldn't be that crazy to try such a thing anyway, even if the description is kinda vague...

They're always vague. Especially when it's an internal document and not a press release.

On MLK day I think trains and buses run on a Saturday schedule. I believe that's only on Columbus Day that the MTA allows it to run on a weekday schedule.

MLK, Columbus and Black Friday are weekday-75 in A-Div and regular weekday in B-Div.

CPW I agree, unless they somehow manage to have two sets of shuttle buses: One running straight between 125th and 59th (allowing those to use the Park Drive at all times and even if it means working with Central Park officials to use them as dedicated busways during the shutdown, including when the Park Drive would normally be closed to vehicles) and the other on CPW making local stops. Otherwise, it would likely be impossible to do that.

As for fourth Avenue, one thing that could be done for this to work would be while the (N) runs via the West End after 36th Street, the (F) is temporarily extended past Coney Island running through there over to the (N) tracks, running via the normal (N) route from there to Kings Highway while a separate, single-track shuttle would operate between Kings Highway and 8th Avenue.

Not perfect, but that's how I would do it.

That is too much for the Fox to handle!!!! 179-Stillwell is a long route!!! Smh

The West End (D) line and Sea Beach (N) line aren't too far away. What purpose does it serve sending a shuttle to the Sea Beach stations? Not gonna work, sorry.

The other option would be to have the (Q) extended to Kings Highway with the single track shuttle noted above. This would only be while the Fourth Avenue FASTRACK is going on.

Looks like they're adding some (4) shuttles for the Concourse (D) Fasttrack:

(4) Additional service operates between Woodlawn and 149 St-Grand Concourse

Late Nights, 10 PM to 5 AM, Mon to Fri, Jan 14 - 18

• Transfer at 149 St-Grand Concourse to continue your trip.

Also downtown (D) trains skip 155 st for the Fasttrack
