Just wanted to point out, earlier this evening I saw R62A 1911-15 coupled with single cars 1921-1937-1910-1930-1925-(recently SMS'ed) going south on the (1) probably coming from 207th yard. Now originally I suspected those 5 car-single units to be used as spares for the 42nd Shuttle. But since it was coupled with a Westchester yard set, probably safe to assume that it's a new 5-car set for use on the (6).

Also all those single sets do have their bench seating's still intact.

When the 42nd St Shuttle opened with 6-cars, 1921 and 1925 had seats inside left, right and middle. Never been taken out, only 1922. Probably a 240 St unit (2456-2465) may be moved back to the (1) to make it 37 trains total.

The full 6-car layout for the 42 St (S) :

-1936-1933-1935-1932-1939-1955

-1943-1944-1947-1948-1908-1949

-1951-1953-1946-1945-1929-1950

-1941-1928-1906-1907-1922-1956

Total of 24 cars (4 trains) before with the 3-3-4 train setup was 20 (6 trains). Length and seating was adjusted.

Seen an YouTube video of an mixed R143/R160 set in a yard transfer. Both sets were operational.

This is an interesting development as maybe we will now see mixed NTT sets in passenger service with different car classes. As we all know the yards with multiple NTT car classes like ENY and Jerome keep their tech train fleets separate, maybe this will change in the near future...?

Doubt it; keeping sub-fleets with different running gear in separate consists is a NYCT practice that goes back over 65 years, and even further if one counts the BMT and IRT days.  On the rare occasion that equipment was mixed up, those trains always bucked like crazy- at least the ones I ended up on as a passenger.

Here are all the videos so far that clearly show them being interoperable. It really is an interesting development, but why was it in Jamaica? A lot of questions popping in my head.

This train must have wound up at Jamaica by mistake and needed to be retrieved for East New York.  That can happen!

8341-4 and 8221-4 can absolutely be interoperated, when required, but only on the L.

Those two have the "Canarsie" flavor of CBTC, which have to only be used in revenue service there.  R-143s 8101-8212 and R-160A-1s 8313-8376.  Nominally separately, however.

The balance of R-160A-1s based at East New York (8377-8652 and 9943-9974) now have "Queens" CBTC, which are segregated onto the M for revenue service.

My presumption is somehow it was migrated all the way to Jamaica on by-pass, unless it was for some other reason.

Might not have been missed until someone was surprised once they tried to get it on the road for the M and couldn't answer.

The R160's basically towed the R143's from ENY to get Wheel turning done at Jamaica and looped around the yard and towed the R143's back to ENY without the need of the R143 running as the head car.

Edit, I just noticed the r160 numbers. That is strange. Might be some type of test or something

The R143 and R160 are partially inter-operable (propulsion, brake, and some trainline functions, etc.). The R160 contract included a requirement to provide software/hardware upgrades to the R143s to allow this.

Both of these 4-car links were at Jamaica for wheel trueing. It's more efficient crew-wise to transfer them back to ENY as a single train.

2456-2460: Westchester (6) , set to return to 240 St  (1)

Seen deadheading south, Brooklyn Bridge side with Not In Service first and last cars of the 5-car.

They need to send the other former (1) cars back and give Westchester the 1800's that 240th has.

Unless you don't count the 1900s that still have the 240th yard labels, Westchester yard only has 15 ex 240th St yard cars left (2221-2225, 2346-2350, & 2461-2465). 240th still has way more 1800s in comparison.

The (G) that's strictly to use the R160s 9853-9942 are shared (recently or happened already weeks ago) with the (E)(F)(R) . All 5-car R160s -> Jamaica Yard, only time they are at Coney Island Yard is lay-ups for all 3 lines except the E.

The mixed sets started last weekend. This is in part of CBTC installation on the remaining 9853-9942.

When they first Got to Jamaica, 2 sets of 9800's were on the (R) . These were Jamaica's again as soon as the (G) went back to it at the start of the new Pick. They just started swapping cars since those 98/9900's are due for an inspection. That's why they kept those cars on the (G), The 3rd week of the pick 9243-47 was on the (G).

9853-9942 already has CBTC in them and were running in CBTC before they were swapped to CI. remember some of the 9900's stayed at Jamaica for another month before going to CI for an earlier 9800 set.

Yeah 240th has 1826-1830; 1841-1900. Speaking off 1900, has anyone seen 1896-1900?

There’s 3 R160’s on the (N) and 2 Siemens sets on the (Q) !!

That doesn't surprise me considering how many R46s were pulled from service in the past week due to mechanical problems (at least 2-3 trains per day removed on each the (N) / (W) and (Q)), and the increased vandalism on those lines.
