Guest Lance Posted October 24, 2013 Share #4526 Posted October 24, 2013 It's Mon-ta-hue. The "g" sounds like an "h". I've always heard it with the "g" sound, not the "h".
MHV9218 Posted October 24, 2013 Share #4527 Posted October 24, 2013 I've always heard it with the "g" sound, not the "h". Everybody says Mon-ta-gue.
Via Garibaldi 8 Posted October 24, 2013 Share #4528 Posted October 24, 2013 (edited) I've always heard it with the "g" sound, not the "h". Well I don't know what to tell you, but I grew up in Brooklyn and spent tons of time in Brooklyn Heights along that very street and that's how we Brooklynites say it. When said quickly it sounds like what I said before but this link also has that "h" sound I mentioned. http://www.urbanedgeny.com/apartment-living-blog/how-do-you-pronounce-houston-street-and-schermerhorn-and-desbrosses-and/ Montague – [MON-tuh-gyo] Edited October 24, 2013 by Via Garibaldi 8

N6 Limited Posted October 24, 2013 Share #4530 Posted October 24, 2013 The other day I made a cross platform transfer from an to an at Union Turnpike. We pulled in to Union Turnpike on the Express tracks, and there was a "special" across the platform to 179th st. We ran somewhat light to 179th. I wonder if there were delays because the bus lines weren't long. And my bus was actually light!

I don't need a history lesson or a series of links to how others pronounce it.

I thought I originally replied to peacemaker anyway so I don't know why you got involved in the first place.

Guest Lance Posted October 24, 2013 Share #4535 Posted October 24, 2013 Well excuse me for responding on a public forum. I wasn't aware this was a private conversation. Oh wait, it isn't.

I guess you should have use the PM instead if you didn't want anyone else to respond to you. Via Garibaldi 8 Posted October 24, 2013 Share #4537 Posted October 24, 2013 (edited) Well excuse me for responding on a public forum. I wasn't aware this was a private conversation. Oh wait, it isn't. You're right it isn't, hence why I don't understand your remark about why I'm posting the link as if it is solely for you. You just need to take that chip off of your shoulder once in a while and you'd be a lot better off. Guest Lance Posted October 24, 2013 Share #4538 Posted October 24, 2013 I'm not the one that got bent out of shape after a response, but whatever. It's really not worth the energy you seem to be putting into this.

So they send some (E)'s to 179. IMO, it's not consistent.
Grand Concourse Posted October 24, 2013 Share #4541 Posted October 24, 2013 I've always heard it with the "g" sound, not the "h". Yup. On a related note for years I used to sound out Houston st like the city in Texas instead of saying 'house-ton'.
RollOver Posted October 24, 2013 Share #4542 Posted October 24, 2013 From what I saw in one of mark1447's (or bebo2good's) videos, it was revealed that the was extended further to 179th Street during its last runs of the night. Credits goes to him: IND Subway: 179th St Bound R160B Train at Union Turnpike

IMO, it's not consistent. I know they send 's to/from 179th. In the morning they go Express so something like that wouldn't happen in the morning. In the evenings they go local, therefore one could make a cross platform transfer from to if they arrive at Union Turnpike Simultaneously, although in my case the to 179th was held in the station for people to make the connection.
M. Friday 1986 Posted October 25, 2013 Share #4547 Posted October 25, 2013 So guys, sorry if this has been asked and answered before...I was wondering about something: Country: United StatesCity: New YorkSystem: New York City TransitLocation: 207th Street ShopCar: R-110A (Kawasaki, 1992) 8005Photo by: Daniel NegronDate: 2/14/2013So these cars were being converted to new Pump Cars last February. My question is: what kind of progress has been done so far on these cars, if any since February? Also, a related but separate question: I read somewhere one car of each, an R110A and R110B is to be preserved. Is that true? Thanks, guys.
Grand Concourse Posted October 25, 2013 Share #4548 Posted October 25, 2013 I'd love to see an R110A and R110b saved. I never got to see either in person other than from the yards. The R110A interior looked interesting with the window side seats. I think it would've been nice to have, but given how they obstruct the walking flow, probably best they went with the inward facing seats.

VIP Posted October 25, 2013 Share #4550 Posted October 25, 2013 Yes, it should read Atlantic-Pacific-Barclays but there isn't enough space on the display. but on the IRT there's enough space... Aren't those cars thinner?
