Are you sure? While the link listed these dates, the MTA Planned Service Changes doesn't say otherwise. In addition, the link posted does state that this weekend the (F) is to run over 53rd St in both directions yet it's not happening. It could be that the link is only a tentative date (maybe due to ongoing CBTC work on the QBL) and start of work is pushed to a later date but I'm not entirely sure.

Yeah, but that’s the only info we have, that’s why I said that this service change was subject to change in the end, maybe the MTA is still coordinating better ways to avoid service congestion to minimize inconvenience, or the project is just delayed for a few months

Okay I just found new updates, apparently the project is delayed, the MTA is revising its schedule start date of the project, it’s possible the project wouldn’t start until at least 2024 https://rooseveltislander.blogspot.com/2023/03/roosevelt-island-escapes-transportation.html

At least It will allow the (7)<7> work to get done (at least the express suspension) before the majority of the (F) work starts.

About that, I’m still wondering how the mta will handle the crowds at Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue station, the (E)(F)(M)(R) platforms will be more crowded during the (7) line project, unless they do run more trains like they planned to for this, there is always something happening on the QBL, whether it’s Signal problems or people being disruptive

There won't be enough crews to run 30 TPH on the full local (7) - there might be a reduction of 1-2 TPH during rush hours, and also pending rolling stock availability (reduced spare factor and increased crew requirements).

Interesting G.O coming up on Memorial Day Weekend. All Northbound (D)(F) Trains will be rerouted on 8th Avenue.

Update on this G.O: The (D)(F) reroute on Memorial Day weekend is only the start of a bigger G.O. affecting the Sixth Avenue Line that is expected to take place between mid-May and the start of July. This G.O will allow switches near West 4th Street to be replaced.

The breakdown is as follows:

  • May 15-July 3: Additional two minutes added to uptown (B)(D)(F)(M). One less (F) will operate in the morning rush hour; two less (F) and one less (M) in the afternoon rush hour. <F> express will operate local during this period
  • Weekends (Memorial Day weekend, June 2-5, June 16-19): Uptown (D)(F) over 8th Avenue; uptown (A)(C) express on 8th Avenue and Central Park West, with uptown (D) running local on CPW
  • Weekend of May 13-15: uptown (D) making local stops on 6th Avenue
  • Weekends of May 20-22 and June 30-July 3: uptown (F) running on 6th Avenue express
  • Weeknights in two weeks (June 5-16): (A)(C) express both directions on 8th Avenue and CPW; (D) local full route and via 8th Avenue and Culver Lines; (F) via Broadway and West End, running local in Manhattan and Brooklyn

Full information on this press release: https://new.mta.info/press-release/mta-perform-switch-replacement-work-b-d-f-m-lines-between-may-and-july-service

Side personal opinion: This G.O plus the (7) work the next few months might be why the MTA is delaying the 63rd Street tunnel work but I can't confirm this.

This GO is either a cause or effect of delaying the 63rd St project. Hopefully the QBL CBTC issues can be sorted out once that project starts.

Wasn't there a switch replacement in that area recently? Or am I thinking of the interlocking upgrade in 2019

Nah the 63rd Street project is delayed for other reasons.

The interlocking upgrade was back from August 2018 through September of 2018. They did replace the tracks on part of the local tracks at the end of 2018.

Uptown (B)(D)(F)(M) trips will take an additional two minutes while traveling north of W 4 St-Wash Sq some (F) and (M) trains will not run

May 15 - Jun 30, Monday to Friday

There will be one less (F) train during the morning rush hour, two fewer (F) trains and one less (M) train during the evening rush hour.

You may experience longer wait times, additional crowding and delays.

Reminder: (B) trains do not run, and (M) trains do not operate in midtown Manhattan overnight or on weekends.

What's happening?

Switch replacement work near W 4 St-Wash Sq

The stations will be closed on Friday midnight, so technically this Friday is the last day the Manhattan bound platforms will be open

36th Street Station improvements and repairs (M)(R)

This project will require the station to close down in both directions for repairs, From June 5-12, I’m not sure if this is a small renovation, the information that is given is new ADA compliant platform edge replacement, new lighting, replacing wall tiles, ect. 46th street station will also be closed down in the near future as well for repairs, it’s part of the contract A36986.

People can just walk to 74th street if they have to go to Manhattan urgently, instead of having to take a flushing bound (7) to 90th Street, takes too much time

If 63rd is being reconstructed, would that mean the (F) runs via 53rd like it used to, and if it does what happens to the (M)?

Well a while back, the MTA released a PDF that involved the 63 St reconstruction which involved the (F) running via 53 St along with the (M) still running towards midtown, but running in one direction replacing (F) service along 63 St while running its normal routing along 53 St in the other.

Safe to say they went back to the drawing board since it was supposed to happen this month I believe right about now actually. They kept one direction still running for direct service to/from Manhattan and Roosevelt Island since the only way riders get in and out if it was a complete closure would be through Queens by bus. It's unknown whether they will stick to this plan or not later on this year or next year.

is it just the (F) side being affected or is the (Q) side getting renovated as well (probably not considering the (Q) has only run on those tracks for years compared to the (F) running on those tracks for almost 35.

it's the direct fixation tracks. Same reason both the E and J had long term outages on the Archer Avenue Line.
