So I had to pony up 1.90 to exit the station.... FOH... Well now that I know that, well there goes 2 things I'm never going to do that's NJT related from here on out (take a train to/from Secaucus Junction ever again & even thinking of paying that disgustingly exorbitant 9.00 fare on the #355 b/w PABT & American Dream).... I'll still fan the #2 & the #129 to/from there, but via the train, forget that shit.....

You aren't the only one. I can't tell how many times I've done the 355 and have had a "WHAAAAAAAAAAT!?!?" when I tell them the fare is $9.

Alps Road is still closed in both directions on the 197/748.

So they have those Black Oak #197's doing Valley to Ratzer?

The #748 though, runs along 202 & shoots across Ratzer.... Never uses Alps.

NFL Announced a Black Friday Football game between Miami Dolphins at NY Jets… NJT will be busy with Jets fans on the Meadowlands trains and shoppers on the 355 and buses to other malls

I never see much of a crowd taking those things (#355's), from either end of the route.... Funny enough, seems like every time I take the #85 & the #772 there, there's an MCI powered off (which is the next #355 out) with the b/o inside the bus catching some good ole ZzzZzZZ's.....

Sorry I meant the Alps Road stop on Paterson-Hamburg Turnpike.  And for the 748 to Pompton Lakes via Pat-Ham during the rush hour.

Gotcha.

When you brought the #748 up, it reminded me of the last time I took it 2 Saturdays ago.... I don't remember the exact intersection, but cops had Ratzer blocked off (due to a downed tree branch)... Funny enough, cops allowed us to squeeze through (good driving by the b/o btw), while everyone else had to take whatever local streets to circumnavigate it....

I was thinking to myself, if the bus squeezed through, most certainly cars could.... I even chuckled at the thought at the time.... But of course, no qualms on my end...

...that is, up until we got to City Hall (Paterson), where he (the b/o) announced that this is the last stop... Itinerary was all jacked up at that point... smhlol...

I'd be curious to know what the planned itinerary was and the actual itinerary ended up being.

I will say the #748 doesn't seem to be too reliable. The last time I tried to catch it, I was at Ratzer & Alps and at the time the bus was supposed to be getting to that stop heading back towards Willowbrook Mall, it was crossing the river heading eastbound to Downtown Paterson.

I can't speak too much on weekdays, but on saturdays inparticular, b/o's on that route appear to do whatever they want... At Willowbrook (whilst waiting for other buses on multiple instances) I've seen buses leaving significantly early (15+ mins.).... I can't count how many times it's no showed..... It really does feel like a crapshoot trying to plan an itinerary around it...

-------------------

Anyway, I threw the planned itinerary for that trip in the garbage when we got to Paterson's City Hall on that #748 trip in question...But from what I can remember, the planned trip was to be the #197 - #748 - #704 - #705 - #758 - #762 - #772 - #85 - #126 (save for the 197 to Willowbrook & the weekend #772 only operating b/w Hackensack & American Dream, all full routes)... That walk from the #748 over to the #704 is always fun... lol....

The trip actually ended up being #197 (to Willowbrook Mall) - #748 (to Paterson City Hall) - #171 (full) - #182 (full) - #712 (full) - #871 (full) - walked from Speedwell/Cattano to MNRR Morristown - Train from Morristown to S. Orange (because I had a ticket from a previous planned trip a couple mos. ago I had to cancel, that I wanted to finally use... that, and I didn't want to ride back on the same bus/driver that I just came off on the #871, that did the #874 back to Willowbrook.... I knew that going in anyway) - #107 (full)... Then for shits & giggles, I took the (C) from TSQ to Jay st, to the B67 - to the B35, home.

Total trip time: 13 hrs, 6 mins, :D

Actually the reason behind that is because Coach USA’s internal schedules from NJT do not match what the public NJT schedule is. There’s a difference of 20+ minutes and my friend who was a former B/O there complained about it multiple times and nothing was ever done.

You’re better than me, I hate riding the 748 with a passion. Going into Paterson between City Hall & Madison/3rd you’re lucky if you make it to where you’re going without getting stuck in endless traffic. My friend absolutely hated driving the 748, the only plus was Willowbrook Mall and the Wendy’s that was in there.

You went for the ride, lol.  Did you ever have any hang ups to where you were a hairsbreadth away from being stranded?

Case in point:  on my day off I parked my car at Wayne Depot and rode into the city on the 192. Wanted to try out the 119 with the New Flyer Xcelsiors.  From Bayonne I got the 10 and rode to JSQ where I got the Path to Newark.  From there I wanted to get the 11 to Willowbrook to the 198 and get off at the depot entrance.  Well I got on the wrong side of Penn Station and miss the 11.

Ok no problem,

I’ll take the 28 up to Willowbrook (unsure if even went that far at that point of the evening).  Well 28 only went to MSU.

Ok no problem.

I’ll get the MOBO at nearby Montclair Heights and ride to Route 23 Transit Center.  Get to MSU, and I’m waiting longer than I’m supposed to.  Then I get word due to a fire in Glen Ridge, the MOBO was 50 minutes late while one of the trains from New York was cancelled.

Ok no problem

The last 28 to Newark is leaving MSU.  I’ll use that to the 72 to Paterson and catch a deadhead (161 or 190) back to the depot.  I specifically told b/o I want to catch the 72.  She puts me off a full mile where I actually want to go.  Cue a nice 45 minute adventure on foot down Bloomfield Av (with a few brisk sprints mixed in and a shortcut down Belleville Ave) and I was able to catch that last 72 to Paterson with 4 minutes to spare.  Caught a 190 dh back to Wayne depot to end one of the more chaotic trips ever 🤦‍♂️

Lol.... I try to (go all out on these fantrips) every single time.... I feel unsatisfied doing trips for anything less than like 6 hours..... Still want to do a 24+ hr. trip again, but nowadays, it would have to be on the perfect day weather-wise for me (pretty much meaning during a brisk-to-cold fall or winter day, with no precip' of any sort).... Anyway, generally speaking, I don't put myself in those situations to where I'm near being stranded (and on that trip in-particular, it was no exception)....

Damn, somebody had it out for you on that day; bad ass luck all the way around, fam..... I can honestly say that I've never had a trip close to being this bad.... Bet at the end of it all, you're kicking yourself for not taking the #72 to begin with (now that feeling, I've had quite a few times - The whole, I should've did 'y' instead of 'x')... Two things though:

1] Where the heck did that op' on the #28 (the Newark bound one) leave you off at?

2] By any chance, did you happen to know the op' on the #190 that took you back to the depot?

Give yourself some credit - It's enough you even did that trip, knowing that you had to pick up your seed !

With as much fanning as I've done, this may sound odd, but I still feel as if I'm missing out on a whole hell of a lot... I'm not one of these people that's satisfied with simply riding a route once, twice, or a handful of times.... Sadly, I've been doing a lot of procrastinating lately (lot of which is due to health reasons)... Going on 42 & my back reminds me of that shit everyday... Lol....

Like today for example... Wanted to do some Bee Line fanning, but... Woke up with a stiff back around 4:15 (which is usually around the time I wake up anyway)... Said to myself, nope, this aint happening.... Not taking the (2) all the way from Church to 241st early in the morning feeling f**ed up like this.... I *may* do some riding in your neck of the woods tomorrow though; with the aim of riding most of the #80's routes....

Speaking of which, how would you rank the riderships of those routes (#80 - #89) from most utilized to least utilized?

It sounds like the B/O let him off at Bloomfield Avenue & Park Street in Montclair, rather than taking him all the way to Bloomfield for the #72. (I guess she thought anywhere along Bloomfield Avenue must be in Bloomfield).

In other words, if he had walked straight to the #72 from MSU, that would've been roughly the distance he walked from Montclair Center to Bloomfield Center.

@checkmatechamp13 I think that’s exactly where she let me off and I didn’t know at the time I was near to an NJT colleague that lived near Belleville Ave.  I would’ve hit him up to ask for a couch nap for the night.

@B35 via Church before I get to 2, a quick note that the op of the 72 that I barely caught much to my shock and awe was a former co worker from Lakeland.  So we caught up with each other as he works from Market Street and I’m out of Wayne.

Now to 2, the operator knew me and believe it or not I was going to go through the trouble of riding that whole 190 on a round trip before we went back to the garage, but the problem was that MCI would give one of the worst mule kicks ever when it would accelerate and I finally had to get off not long after leaving Grand Street in Paterson (at night 😖) and the op of the Paterson bound bus took me back after finishing.

Sorry about ya back...I know how u feel once in a while i get a lil stiff..Our age is definitely catching up i just turned 44.....lol...I would say the 87 would have the most ridership out of them...80 to me is next...81 gained a boost in ridership when A&C Took away the 4 off ocean av...83 84 85 86 88 89...I rarely took those..But i can say that the 84 and 86 has decent ridership north of Newark Ave...

Ah so that's why my 161 driver told me to scan my phone ticket lol. Makes it so much better, doing the 319 and having to verify each ticket was a hassle...

No, when one scans the mytix from the phone in the reader it pops up on the register and you don’t have to press anything. It updates the count for you on the wayfarer.
