Njt just cancelled the special schedule. Effective 4/18/2020 all njt buses resume back to normal, with full rush hour schedules on weekdays. Gov.Murphy failed us.

What happens to routes like the 355 & 356 (both which would have zero ridership). It would be better to either keep the existing schedule, and have additional buses on standby, or adjust the schedule if necessary. Still might need more personnel, but it would be less than a full restoration of service (and anyone on standby would still have less chances of interacting with people).

They are going to cut those 2 lines. State counsel did not want to come to an agreement with ATU.

I've thought about doing something like this (integrating the bus system in NJ) a long time ago, but never got around to it....

Anyway, I would've left out Transbridge & included Ocean Ride, MCAT, and whatever's left of BurLINK instead...

I didn't give the local agencies a second though (and I should have).

The main, if not the only reason I included Trans-Bridge was because they had NJT buses.

So I will be attending college in New Jersey and I plan on taking the bus there (the 10 or 119 or 80 or the Montgomery West Side buses along West Side Avenue). I need to know how fares work in NJ (other than the base $1.60 fare) and how to use it. The only one I know of is using a bus pass for Zone 1 along West Side Avenue for those Montgomery & Westside IBOA buses and the 80). Can anybody teach me how zones and fares work in NJ please?

So the zones on the local work like the express, they're divided up by city and county lines. So if you're riding the 10/119, then all of Jersey City is one zone and then Bayonne would be another zone. (JFK/63rd is the zone changeover btw) Therefore, if your trip is 1 zone, the fare is $1.60. If it is a 2 zone, it is $2.55 (or whatever it is, now)

The bus passes are good on all the NJT lines for up to how many zones indicated. 2 zones and up I believe are good for the light rail as well. There are however intrastate and interstate bus passes. Horizontally printed passes are intrastate (good wholly in NJ) and interstates are good for NJ and heading to/from NY. If you have a pass, you can always pay the difference in the fare at the box.

If you're not going to answer his questions and contribute meaningfully, then please don't post at all. You should know that the only trains in Jersey City are the light rail and PATH, both of which doesn't help his commute to NJCU or Saint Peter's College.

To add to what @SevenEleven said, the zones are distance based & every route has a certain (total) amount of zones it serves along its route... Until you familiarize yourself where a particular zone begins/ends, you can go online & check the individual timetables for each route... The map section of the timetable shows you where each zone begins & ends... It also tells you the amount of zones the route serves, along with the corresponding fare you have to pay....

Route #10: https://www.njtransit.com/pdf/bus/T0010.pdf

Route #80: https://www.njtransit.com/pdf/bus/T0080.pdf

Route #119: https://www.njtransit.com/pdf/bus/T0119.pdf

------------------

Route #119 is an interstate route btw (the fare zone chart [or, price] for intrastate travel & interstate travel are different, but you won't have to worry about the latter, since you're not taking it to/from NY).... But again, if you look on the timetable, it shows you all that information...

The entire route #80 encompasses 1 fare zone - so no matter where you get on, the fare will always be that $1.60 (the fare to travel within 1 zone)

Route #10 encompasses 2 fare zones - which means it only has one boundary.... Again, refer to the map on the timetable of where that boundary along the route is.... If you're on one side of the boundary & wish to cross it, you have to pay for 2 fare zones (which is that $2.55).... If you don't, then you pay the $1.60, as you're traveling within 1 zone.....

Hope any/all of this helps, bro.....

No Problem, DC.

------------------------------------------------

Speaking of zones, I have a question of my own.... Well, 2 actually:

1] Not counting the full-service lines, which NJT route travels the most zones? Is it the current #59 with 5, or is there a 6 zone local route?

2] How many (or which) NJT routes are 1 zone only?

If anyone wants, I can send a list of codes for Academy Bus Lines. However, I won't just be dispensing the "secret" codes, so please PM me why you want to have the codes, and I will  send it to you if I am sure that your reason is not malicious.

I think only the 80 has one zone as Ik. i really don't know any others. Also I think the Philly Atlantic City route has the most zone (correct me if I'm wrong and I don't remember the route number)

Side note: NJT updated the bus section of the website... Looking through the drop-down menu for all the routes (right side of the page), they got routes listed here I've never heard of.... #364, #365, #366, #397.... For whatever reason, they got the old #95 listed here too...

Anyway....

There's quite a bit of 1-zone routes... Off top, there's the #5, #6, #80, the Metropark loops (#800-805), #813, #822.... I'm sure there's others.

The #551 Philly-Atlantic City is a 15 or 16 zone route IINM, but that's a full-service route, not a local route.,.

Of the full service routes, the #319 NY - Cape May during the summer, travels the most zones...
