Amazing how some who do not work for transit has the most to say about car equipment/placement. ENY only has ONE Train Left and that might go after tonight, Its common sense that when you have more than enough Tech trains, they wouldn't need those R42's anymore. no one has to work for transit to realize that. the ONLY reason why the R42's were still at ENY after the R160's came back from the was because of R179 issues and R160's getting SMS. Now that more R179's became more reliable and R160 SMS (ENY units) is likely done, They don't need the R42's anymore. now its up in the Air on what they're going to do with them, some say the is getting them, some say long term storage-retirement. i'll just wait and see at this point.
bwwnyc123 Posted December 27, 2019 Share #5052 Posted December 27, 2019 R42s are mainly done for regular passenger service and put in storage just in case they are needed again. And from ENY they don't even use them all day and all night like they use too. Mainly for Rush hours only.

It has been stripped as will the rest of the MK R-42's. Bye bye to Jersey this spring! Your 3878/79 also now officially retired as well. Previously stripped out as previously noted. That's it so far. Many more coming O/S January and February (maybe March?) as well. Keep them eyes open!!! 8 MK R-42's for Work Service to Coney Island and 8 others for 207 Street.

This would bring the R32 total down to 142 from 222. (80 cars retired). Wonder how the spare factor will be affected. Seems like there will be less R32 trains now. Interesting! Yea that was my mistake, yea it was said that 80 cars would be getting scrapped. I still think the will still use some R32's.

Should be at Jamaica Ctr by 6:15 or so. I’m convinced it got removed from service afterwards and sent back to the yard or sent to the back at Jamaica Ctr. There are also six cars of R42s sitting at ENY as well btw. Edited December 27, 2019 by Jemorie

m2fwannabe Posted December 28, 2019 Share #5064 Posted December 28, 2019 Here's what's showing for the 40 Out Of Service MK R-42s. East New York: 4788/89, 4792/93, 4796/97, 4804-07, 4810/11, 4814/15, 4822/23, 4832/33, 4836/37 (20). Pitkin: 4826-39 (4). Work Service Coney Island: 4794/95, 4802/03, 4808/09, 4838/39 (8). Work Service 207 Street: 4800/01, 4812/13, 4820/21, 4834/35 (8). I bet that side sash on 4815 is STILL broken open. Been open at least since the Myrtle Shuttle a couple of years ago. Evidently it is never to be ever closed again for the ever...

Calvin Posted December 28, 2019 Share #5068 Posted December 28, 2019 Just to refresh, I know ENY has overcapacity of trains. With the 42s being moved to storage, were the problems on the R179 fixed?

Keep in mind they might also be on the intervals leaving Broad St at any given time between 4:50PM and 5:50PM.
