So, R62A 1881-85 decided to migrate to Queens on Election night. Its currently at Corona yard mingling with R62As 1906 & 1907 on track 15.

Possible transfer to the overhaul shop maybe??

Last I checked, someone said that it was transferred to get the remaining R62A out of Corona. At least from what DJ Hammers said, but other than that, I have no idea.

The full 6 single units have been converted to a full 6-car train for future 42 St Shuttle service:

1936-1933-1935-1932-1939-1955

1935 has its full-width cabs removed.

It just couldn’t be linked up as 1932-1933-1935-1936-1939-1955 huh.... smh Transit shenanigans.

Are they connected by coupler or link bar ?  Unless the shuttle project is near completion the use of link bar doesn't make sense to me. Why take 6 cars away from the available fleet?  Carry on.

It's a good question. Perhaps now that they've removed some 62As from the refuse pool they feel they have the capacity? I wouldn't be surprised if they were just coupled. At least until their SMS, a few Westchester 62A five-car sets made of formerly-Flushing singles were coupled in sequential order (1916-1920 come to mind).

The (R) has 9102-9098/9032-9028 which usually runs out of Coney Island Yard. I don’t Know if it’s to convert that set over to CBTC however, The (Q) had 9363/9367-9597/9593 for two days now. The (A) still has a rotating R160 set or two on the line even with all the R179’s in service.

Why some r160s from Jamaica yard runs on the (Q) line?

I heard that some R46's crapped out, some (R) trains were forced to be rerouted via 6th Av because of one of the R46's crapping out in 60th St tunnel. Even (N) trains have some of its R160's returned because of the R46's.

That’s incorrect. There was heavy flagging and signal maintenance in the tube and south of Queensboro. The R160 that pops up in (Q) service is the (R) put in to 96 Street-2 Avenue. But there were two Jamaica sets on the (Q)

There can also be gaps on Brighton line at this time of season, slow speeds involving weather conditions. Sometimes, if the Stillwell Av train behind is 15-20 mins away from the (Q) that's using the (R) train set. They will use the Jamaica R160 for one extra round-trip until noon at Stillwell Av so, it can be prepped up back to the (R) for PM rush service.

There were two Jamaica R160B Alston trains 9843-9847/9903-9907 and 9898-9902/99XX-99XX on the (N) just now

9908-9912

Also, ex. Coney Island set 8768-8772 and 9473-9477. Flip seats are still there.

My guess is that Jamaica Yard has R160s to spare as R179s have slowly re-entered (A) service and the (F) still going on its reduced schedule to allow work done on the Culver line.

Guess that makes it three that were temporarily switched for the day. I think it’s just what was available in the yard plus the fact that additional R46s have been crapping out. Three crapped out on the (N) and one on the (Q) today, while one on the (W) had two cars with warning lights on (orange). As a matter of fact, a good chunk of the R46s I see on the (N) have at least one car with the warning light on

Well actually, remember that before the R179s failed (the second time), there were 120 R160B Siemens cars (8888-8892, 8938-8942, 9003-9007, 9018-9022, and 10 others I can’t remember right now, along with 8913-8917, 9008-9012, and 9023-9102). If this is a case of bringing back the R160 count Coney Island had before the R179 issue arose, then this car move is just indicative of trying to find 30 additional Siemens cars to fill in, or a move to get 120 Alstom propulsion R160s to Coney Island to get the last 90 Siemens cars upgraded to CBTC.

again I’m thinking I’m over thinking this, which is the main point. Only time will tell. Carry on 😀

Right on that. Other 10 is 8978-8982 and 8993-8997. Only one 89xx series out of the rest at C.I that are 9000 series.

You mean that little light on the side of the car? I think that's an dead motor light. I notice those lights regularly on the CI Yard assigned R46s as well.

Yeah it’s 8913-8917 (was just on it and have seen it regularly on the (N)). This set never left Coney Island, was likely a placeholder for 9013-9017, which was originally supposed to stay, but ironically was the first Siemens unit to leave for Jamaica so that the crews in the yard could learn to maintain a Siemens propulsion car
