subwaycommuter1983 Posted August 28, 2017 Share #4027 Posted August 28, 2017 I noticed that too in the video and it wasn't a simulated testing, like the ones done on the C.

BreeddekalbL Posted August 31, 2017 Share #4029 Posted August 31, 2017 Someone on another group is telling me that the r179 option orders were cancelled and said he had a reliable source in the mta can someone debunk.
quadcorder Posted August 31, 2017 Share #4030 Posted August 31, 2017 No such options exist to be cancelled, the order is a fixed size with no options. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
r142a7436 Posted August 31, 2017 Share #4031 Posted August 31, 2017 (edited) Someone on another group is telling me that the r179 option orders were cancelled and said he had a reliable source in the mta can someone debunk.I also saw this nonsense. Apparently he has a "reliable source" however he doesn't seem to understand that you can't cancel an order that never existed. EDIT: typo. MTA Bus Posted August 31, 2017 Share #4032 Posted August 31, 2017 The person actually works for MTA and has provided information that has been proven ture in the past. Sent from my LG-US996 using Tapatalk
Fan Railer Posted August 31, 2017 Share #4033 Posted August 31, 2017 (edited) ... the option orders were deleted from the contract YEARS ago. The order was originally for 290 cars base, 50 cars option 1, and 80 cars option 2 (SAS Phase 1). Somewhere down the line, someone decided we didn't need the "growth cars" [LOL] and had the contract amended to just 300 cars base, no options. Whoever is spouting nonsense about this right now is simply conveying unsubstantiated rumors. Edited August 31, 2017 by Fan Railer
Around the Horn Posted August 31, 2017 Share #4034 Posted August 31, 2017 My guess is someone in procurement decided to pull a prank and give him this information knowing he'd spread it.
Lawrence St Posted August 31, 2017 Share #4035 Posted August 31, 2017 Apparently the R179 was built 6 inches to short, and the third rail shoes keep getting knocked off the train. I don't think were going to see these things in service anytime soon.

I don't think were going to see these things in service anytime soon. That makes absolutely no sense because first of all, the Third Rail shoe is on the trucks/bogies of the train(same trucks that are on the 142 so if it was happening on the 179 it would happen to the 142) and second of all it wouldnt be C line testing if it was happening.
Yankees4life Posted August 31, 2017 Share #4038 Posted August 31, 2017 Yeah, the R179 is gonna be in service soon. Don't believe anything but that fact...
Around the Horn Posted August 31, 2017 Share #4039 Posted August 31, 2017 The six inches is a rumor, what is definitely confirmed was that story about some undercarriage equipment that fell off while being inspected...

Those 5 car sets of r179's would replace the r32s and r68s that are on the A. Plus, more trains are needed on the A due to increased ridership.

Lance Posted September 1, 2017 Share #4047 Posted September 1, 2017 The train would've also never left the yard. Constant power dips are really noticeable, especially when it's one of the first things the inspectors look for when testing the cars.

elantra06 Posted September 2, 2017 Share #4049 Posted September 2, 2017 (edited) The R160's were scrapped from in the past because of the power supply difference out in the rockaways. LIPA provides the power out there not ConEd. Edited September 2, 2017 by elantra06
