BUS - Random Thoughts Thread

Thank goodness they haven't installed those new signs on the B44SBS+ and M34SBS+

Saw that new sign on the M15 the other day.. They look disgusting. They need to go back to regular signage and amber lights.

Never really understood to why (MTA) didn't have the ability to use the lights for SBS+ service.

All Manhattan SBS routes had that new code since December.

The codes are worst on LGA bound M60s, they don't even show the destination, just flash "+Select Bus".

What would the sight-distance impact be if all SBS used blue signs over orange/amber or the current idea of reverse-overlay?

Since the newer signs are capable of full spectrum ROYGBIV, why not color-code SBS in that way?  Leave orange/amber for Locals, and if you really want to get ambitious, use red for Limiteds.

There won't be a red to have LTD's for, as SBS' are replacing LTD service.........

If anyone wants to check out what the SBS routes are running today, M86 is completely OG, Q44 has a few OG and NGs with the usual XD40, Bx12 has all NG and one LFS, The M34 has an RTS and 2 NGs on both routes, B44 is TBD as it is not running yet, M60 is of all standards at quill, Bx41 has all NG, and the M15 has OGs and NG. Even the S79 is a bit different today, running some 39xx NG and one Orion V.

Today I was taking a video of an LFS on the Bx9, and the driver calls me over... At first I was a bit pissed, thinking "oh wtf does this guy want" (seeing as how the few interactions I've had with drivers were pretty bad), but he just wanted to see the video I took. He seemed to like it and ended up giving me a free ride to to the next stop (which was useless for me cuz I now had to walk back to the stop I was already at lol), but he seemed to be a friendly guy. Asked for my YouTube account and when I was gonna upload the videos of his driving :)

Wow a driver how actually likes being filmed. Maybe he thought he was going to get YouTube famous lol.

A handful of artics are beginning to trickle out: one on the 86, one on the 101, etc. 9600 is out on the M79, which I'd like to see.

Yesterday was interesting indeed.  Buses borrowed left and right.  Apparently Eastchester Depot was down because I saw quite a few  express buses on the BxM8, BxM9 out of Yonkers.

I highly recommend you guys get some recordings of the C40LFs before they get their snow tires removed!

The one I just rode on the B16 sounded a whole baritone lower with the tires sounding like a bass.

Those are all-season tires and aren't going anywhere any time soon
