There used to be, but now these two are the exact same route. It's almost like they kept one extra route to say they didn't cut a route or something.

No. They rerouted the N43 over the N41 unique portion on Babylon Tpke. Now the N40/41 is just one route with two numbers for some reason.

Yep. It is a somewhat different scenario with the N70 and the N72. For all things considered, the N72 is just a short turn of the N70, but technically the last eastbound stop is on Route 110 south of Conklin St, while the N70 stop there is on the north side, so that technically makes the route slightly different.

They also cut some trips at night. Essentially there is less service now on the n40/41 than the old n40 and the n41.

There really is no point in having an n41 and n72 label at this point. These routes are essentially dead: planning wise.

Some drivers coming into Great Neck already do this anyway so that they can drop off passengers and then go right to parking on N Station Plaza for layover. I guess this change makes it consistent.

There was some conversation behind this during the last public meeting. The accusation was that buses in the current n24/n78/n79 bus stop under the tracks were blocking a lane of traffic while they were there and it was disruptive to traffic on Newbridge Rd. One of the members of the panel raised this and suggested that there needs to be some sort of a dedicated area for buses.

I'm surprised that NICE is still using both N20 numbers. I would keep the "H" leg as N20 and change the "G" leg to N10

Then again, if I were in charge at NICE, I might try to scrap the N20G altogether and have MTA extend the Q12 to Great Neck

I looked at the changes, and there's quite a few changes, particularly on the busier routes where people using the bus before or after a certain hour are getting outright f**ked and having all their service eliminated. There's improvements here and there which are good, but at the same time some of these cuts are pretty significant, and were not highlighted, which they should have been if service is cut with limited/no alternatives. Here they are:

  • Sundays: Jamaica-bound service from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM will operate every 19-22 minutes instead of every 23-25 minutes
  • Sundays: Jamaica-bound service from 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM will operate every 22 minutes instead of every 16-20 minutes
  • Sundays: Freeport-bound service from 5:30 AM - 11:00 AM will operate every 22 minutes instead of every 20 minutes
  • Sundays: Freeport-bound service from 11:00 AM - 5:15 PM will operate every 22 minutes instead of every 25 minutes

- I never got the sense those n24 segments were ever coordinated to begin with, TBH.....

- Don't see much of a point to have n6X's serve UBS Arena... Needless to say, those buses sure get stuck in that traffic though... smfh...

- Thought all that construction around Far Rockaway was been finished & done with... News to me that it's still ongoing.

- They may as well have the n78/79/80 share the same stop at LIRR Hicksville (current n80 stop); they all run like hot garbage anyway... Have the n24 do its first WB pickup at the same stop the n22 does & call it a day (which used to be the case; IDK why they pushed the n24 back with the n78/n79 in the first place - I believe that was done when they segmented the n24).... Four separate bus stops (n20H stop, n22 first pickup stop (shared with the n48/49 dual purpose stop), n24 first pickup stop (shared with the n78/79 first pickup stop), then the n80 stop in question) for the differing bus routes on that same side of the street, in that close a proximity is just plain crazy to begin with.... Never cared for that particular setup....

- It may not be for the Winter changes, but rest assured, the n16 is either going to go back to terminating at RFM full time, or they are going to cut an assload of trips from terminating at NCC, to terminating at RFM.... The n16 b/w NCC & RFM is giving me old n24 b/w RFM & RxR plaza vibes....

- The n27 is a shell of its former self... I'm not sure what can be done to save the thing, but [extra service b/w RFM & Glen Cove] & [having 1 later trip serve 60 Charles Lindbergh (about time they addressed this btw)] isn't going to be enough... Even restoring weekend service won't be enough at this point.... I remember when those first two AM trips out of HTC (weekdays) used to be sardine cans leaving Hempstead... Now, not even close.... Most n27 usage during the midday hours is actually b/w Glen Cove & Greenvale {Northern Blvd} now; it used to be the opposite (as in, b/w Greenvale & Hempstead)....

- This is going to be the unpopular opinion, but there is (still) way too much n70 service running to the college (referring to Farmingdale)... Since they're still hanging onto the n72 notation for short turns to Conklin/110, they may as well have most the current n70's signed up as n72's, with a limited/select amount of n70's running to/from the college... You would actually benefit more Nassau patrons turning the n70 DOWN rt. 110 to Republic Plaza, as opposed to up rt. 110 to the college.... To think that the n70 to Farmingdale State Coll. is almost as useless now, as the N70/n70 used to be when it went to the Newsday facility....

As far as converting n72 trips to n71 trips, just what is going on at Sunrise Mall (or anywhere else along/around the unique portion of the n71, for the matter) all of a sudden to support such a move (which is essentially an extension, if you compare the distances of the n71 & the n72)? Because AFAIK, Sunrise has been dying a slow death for literally years now..... I get that Farmingdale itself is relatively quiet on weekends, but to convert those trips to n71's to me seem like a waste...

While some sort of centralized area for buses around LIRR Hicksville would be beneficial (although I won't hold my breath for it), there are motorists that drop off loved ones and/or friends at the RR station about a couple yards behind (as in, south of) that very bus stop in question... I've seen it myself on multiple occasions throughout the course of, life, & some of the times, they block incoming buses pulling up to the stop, on top of it..... But of course, it's far easier to solely pin the problem on public buses....

They also cut some trips at night. Essentially there is less service now on the n40/41 than the old n40 and the n41.

Interestingly enough, I'm noticing less buses signed up as "n40/41" & more buses going back to being signed up as "n40"... It's not coincidence that multiple b/o's are making that a habit either/all of a sudden <_<

There really is no point in having an n41 and n72 label at this point. These routes are essentially dead: planning wise.

At Mineola at least, from what I notice, nobody really says "n41", or "the 41", or anything of the sort... Same goes for "n40, n41", or "n40, 41", or anything or the sort.... Shit, the b/o's themselves say "the n40" or "the 40", etc. when answering a passenger's question{s}....

They haven't given an official reason, but it provides more service to the Arena.

I understand that it provides more service to the arena... What I'm essentially questioning is how many fans are really taking buses there (from either end of the route).... That's why I said I don't see a point in having the thing (n6x) stop there....

The employees of the arena like the people who work the concession stands, etc might find the N6X stopping there useful.

Yankee Stadium and Citifield misc workers have similar demographics to NICE Bus ridership. I think we can all agree fans of the events that will be held at the arena won't be taking NICE Bus there lol

Then just have the local stop there and call it a day.

Maybe the idea is that if the local is delayed but the express is running, they can still make their shifts.

Why is it so important to assume only fans and not employees?

What difference would it make? I could make the same argument taking the word "fans" out of that statement & replacing it with the word "employees" instead..... Spare me with this whole trying to convey that there are so many, or as many employees that would take n6x's in particular to that arena, worth having those buses stop there....

To be honest, I don't think a stop there would hurt. While it won't be carrying a busloads of crowds from either Jamaica or Hempstead, a small portion of the arena bound passengers  may opt to use it.

Personally I believe the ridership specifically for the Arena will be heavier coming to/from Jamaica.

The secondary and imo the main ridership most likely will be those who will opt take NICE bus to the city line, as a faster way rather than taking the NYCT. So essentially its may siphon some ridership away from NYCT, although the stop location is bad compared to the other city line locations on other NICE routes (with CIP bisecting the border and all that).

That being said NICE is so optimistic in the ridership projections that they are offering a free shuttle from the n6 stop to the Belmont Park LIRR. Obviously catered towards the fans and not employees in this case...

In other words, they can take the limited if it shows up first, since it now stops there.

That would require people to be in reasonably close proximity to one of those stops and for a theoretical delay to only affect the local (which I seriously doubt, considering where the route goes).

Besides, for all this effort, why not try to do something with the n1? It's basically left to rot outside of the peaks, while having a terminus around the UBS Arena would maybe give it a shot at being somewhat useful. (I also got an idea just now, but aside from clearly being something I pulled out of my ass while doing something that doesn't help, it really doesn't fit here.)
