jon2305 Posted July 17, 2015 Share #5304 Posted July 17, 2015 Hey I've been following this topic, but I think theres still about a dozen or so R142A left on the 6 left for conversion work.
MysteriousBtrain Posted July 17, 2015 Share #5305 Posted July 17, 2015 I was talking about to complete the R188 order lolDon't the 7500's need to go down there too or they already started the process?
jon2305 Posted July 17, 2015 Share #5306 Posted July 17, 2015 The R14A 75xx will eventually go up to Yonkers. I think theres about 3 sets of 74xx left.

MysteriousBtrain Posted July 17, 2015 Share #5308 Posted July 17, 2015 I don't think they touch the 7500s yetStill, amazing the is almost fully NTT and the is almost back to the 90's minus the Redbirds. It's around 15 sets before the entire order is completed, but still not that long to get completed. Earliest I've seen recently was a 746x set.

VIP Posted July 18, 2015 Share #5310 Posted July 18, 2015 Corona keeps all their NTTs paired consecutively. Is there a reason why or just yard maintenance preference??
east260street Posted July 18, 2015 Share #5311 Posted July 18, 2015 What about the R142A on the 4 line? The MTA could've converted those cars for the 7 line.

NYtransit Posted July 19, 2015 Share #5315 Posted July 19, 2015 Corona keeps all their NTTs paired consecutively. Is there a reason why or just yard maintenance preference?? It has to do with the set up 5-6 car set up. If one set goes down they take the whole train out
ttcsubwayfan Posted July 20, 2015 Share #5316 Posted July 20, 2015 It has to do with the set up 5-6 car set up. If one set goes down they take the whole train out Wait, what? Why? Why not swap out a broken set for another one of the same size?
7 Flushing Line Posted July 21, 2015 Share #5317 Posted July 21, 2015 Wait, what? Why? Why not swap out a broken set for another one of the same size? My guess is that it would be easier to just take one train out and replace it with another train, instead of having to decouple the broken half of Train A, decoupling the corresponding half of Train B, and connecting the working half of Train A to the other half of Train B.
Javier Posted July 21, 2015 Share #5318 Posted July 21, 2015 You would rather have a 5 car set R188 operating on the ? You must be outta your mind. Like how that R143 was completely taken out of service when it smashed into that bumper at Canarsie Island Yard. They would have swapped out the non damaged set, but that would mean taking out another set along with it.

He's saying replace the 5 or 6 car set with a spare 5 or 6 car set. I'll put it like this: a 5 car set is gone, the entire train is gone. One more 5 car set is gone, 2 trains are out of service. unless both a 6 car set also gets destroyed, those "extra cars" are pretty much worthless.
Fresh Pond Posted July 21, 2015 Share #5320 Posted July 21, 2015 I'm pretty sure they'll get mixed up eventually, the cars are still coming in

Maybe off-peak, but in the rush hour I can't see there being enough trains left around the yard that they're able to pull a full 11 car set off line in exchange for another. The R143 in Canarsie (there's no island in the yard's name) does nothing to further your argument either. The R143s operate in 8 car trains, each made up of 4 car sets. When the R143 smashed through that bumper, the only cars that were affected were the rest of the 4 car unit. 8277 was the car that hit the bumper, so that would mean 8277/78/79/80 are out of service, nothing else.

What I mean is, if you take out one half of a affected set and swap it out with another set, you would be left with two trains taken out of service. Now with the R143, the whole entire 8 car set was taken out of service, not just the first 4 cars.

ttcsubwayfan Posted July 21, 2015 Share #5325 Posted July 21, 2015 Not so. If you go to Corona yard and look down, you will see that there are random 5 or 6 car sets lying around, not always full trains. You swap out the problem set for one of those. What is your source for the R143 thing? Cause whatever it is, it's wrong.
