BUS - Random Thoughts Thread

Seating capacity, I think the Xcelsior has 1 more seat over the LFS. Standing capacity, I think they're about the same.

Xcelsiors have 40

Novas have 39

when there is an overflow of passengers where passengers end up passed the white line the novas can hold a lot more ppl than the xd 40's can

Every day.

Everything is done (refuel, farebox probing, sweeping/mopping of floor, oils & fluids refilled) in one spot, then the bus gets washed and parked.

This about half right. Fueling, farebox probing, and fluid checks are done daily on most buses. All buses get SWEPT daily, moped if theres vomit, urine, or feces present. A full interior and exterior scrub is suppose to be done once a month. This consists of sweeping and moping the floors, cleaning the windows, cleaning the seats, and hand washing the exterior of the bus. Once again, this is what is suppose to happen for each bus. It doesn't always get done.

They're about the same.....it just looks like the Novas can hold more because of how the front layout is like.

Thank you. i thought it was off after I typed it. Do you have a list of the ones still with TwinVisions?

Mostly the Quill units except for 5220-5222, 5224, 5226, 5233-5234. You still got a good chunk of those left. I would think Ulmer Park's batch is entirely with Hanover signs.

I hear that they're changing them as soon as a TwinVision sign goes bad.

None of the 50xx have TwinVisions? Ulmer has a chunk of those (5076 and up plus a few in the 500x and 502x range IIRC)

Is there anything wrong internally with 1281? I was on it Tuesday morning and the operator driving it was venting to some colleagues as it pulled into Pelham Bay. In the conversation, I hear the driver say the exact words "this bus is bad". I missed most of the other details so I can't exactly elaborate on why it was said but that part just surprised me when I heard it.

Before that bus got shipped to GH. It was at MCH/146th. So that could give you a explanation to why that bus is a piece of s*it. When MJQ had it, it was running good. But in plain english these 12xx need to be de relegated to local bus service only and not SBS+.

Since FB just acquired 1233. Hope that bus could go local/limited and be tested on the B46 sometime soon.

What are all the things wrong with the 1200's?

Just as others are saying. Mileage and other maintenance issues

I don't see what putting them on the local lines will do if it isn't just a question of mileage.  If there are maintenance issues that can't be resolves (which is the impression that you're giving) then there will still be issues regardless of what line they are put on.  Seems like the (MTA) should (if possible) be sending these buses back to the manufacturer to have them address the problems because those buses are out of service more than anything else, becoming almost useless to the (MTA) and the passengers who depend on them for bus service.  It's ridiculous to see 40 footers on lines like the M102 that should be all artic.  I saw one yesterday and had to do a double take.  I said to myself, are they short again??  <_<
