I've been waiting for that (N) suspension for a while. They have been cancelling it for months.

The should have done the (A) and (C) one last week instead of this one because it interferes with people planning to be at Aqueduct this Saturday (4/5) for the Wood Memorial, the biggest race of the year at the Big A.

So? If the (MTA) wasn't going to suspend work along the (7) for Mets game, Lunar New Year and what not, what makes you think that they'll suspend it for some race?

To shut down this much of the system at once is inexcusable.

Take another look at the actual service changes before you start talking about "excessive shutdowns". The only lines which will see no service at all are the 4 (149 St to Woodlawn), A/C (Jay St to Utica Av) and N (Queensboro Plaza to Ditmars Blvd). Everything else is a one-directional reroute, local/express run or is related to station rehabilitations on the Pelham and Brighton lines. And the closure of the Montague tubes, but that should be a given by now.

That's still four lines too many to not see service. The (MTA) is the (MTA), though.

Right, because the MTA fairy is just supposed to rub two nickels together, and maintenance will happen without any service disruptions or hitches during the rush hour.

You can pick two out of three: Service runs fine, Service runs 24/7, and MTA fixes 30 years' worth of maintenance backlog so that service continues to run fine. You don't stop going to the dentist because it's painful and you don't like it.

Then what pray tell would you do to keep service running while also maintaining the system to provide said service? There's no way you could always have both. There will have to be times when certain lines have to be shut down because it just isn't possible to run service while also performing maintenance work.
