Calvin Posted December 5, 2019 Share #4777 Posted December 5, 2019 (edited) Since this is fleet swap, the North Division (also known as IRT A Division) is staying silent with the swap of subway cars since all R62As from the Flushing line were sent to Pelham (with exception of extra single units) and R142As from Pelham were converted with CBTC on the Flushing line. Last year around October 2018. Movements can occur during 2022 or just sets moving around time to time. 4CNRailfan Posted December 6, 2019 Share #4786 Posted December 6, 2019 Two sets of R46 were in service today. They both crossed eachother in service on the Manhattan Bridge at around 6:50PM. I didn't catch the rest of the car numbers except for the one I was on myself, which was 5816. You can see the rest of the car numbers on the set I was on in the video linked:
Around the Horn Posted December 6, 2019 Share #4787 Posted December 6, 2019 There might have been a third set transferred this evening as a friend of mine spotted an OOS R46 heading south a few hours ago

I assumed it wouldn't be ready until the early 2020s....

Not 100% sure on the timing, but the swaps on the started happening in 2013/2014, which was a few years before testing began IIRC

How did this get accelerated so much? I look forward to the increased speeds at Rego Park. Do you think it will make much of a difference in running times?

During that time, the and were mostly R32, R40 S, R40M/R42, and R68/As. And for the better part of the last 10 years, R68/A and R160. Thus, this is the 1st time that the will use the R46s.
