Unionport and 180th are the same facility.

Both the 142s and 143s got multiple sms already, all subway car classes get sms every six years. The 142As got mechanical upgrades when they was converted to 188s.

Unionport is a storage yard. East 180th is a maintenance facility and yard. They are/were bisected by mainline tracks the last time I was up there. When the yard dispatcher tells you that your put in is located on 24 track that means Unionport yard but if your train is on 8 track that means East 180 yard. Carry on.

The R188s actually didn't get a true SMS AFAIK.  They just put in the CBTC equipment, maps, door motors, and whatever else needed replacement.  But the converted sets still don't look great (although they look better than when they first came back from Yonkers).  They should've at least put in new lighting or cleaned up the interiors or something.  Still, at least Corona also does a decent job of maintaining their trains.

There was some MTA document posted on here not too long ago basically saying the 188s got mechanical upgrades that the remaining 142A's don't have yet... and the 142A's will get those same upgrades the 188s got cause those upgrades improved their MDBF.

They definitely did not get a full rehab. The converted cars still look busted, from the deteriorating exterior side signs to the peeling materials on the interiors. It's very noticeable when the converted cars are next to an insert car. I noticed they did fix the braking system however. It no longer feels like riding a bronco when I catch a former 142A.

Most (if not all) of the remaining R142As have the newer door motors.  There are also plans to upgrade the remaining R142As to have CBTC, although it will be separate from the R188.

In R179 news, 3050-3057 have been spotted doing burn-in testing (with the doors opening on the opposite side).

You do not wanna know how many people literally scream at the train crews when the doors open on the wrong sides.

Is it okay with the moderators to continue the speculation with the R32/R179 fleet assignments even if we don't like certain ideas?

Why do you keep asking, we get it you want R32's on the (B).

And there's no speculation, the R32's are being shifted to the (A) to bump the R46's to the (C) to make it full length. That is what's currently going on as more R179's enter service.

Btw from what i heard we should be getting 8 cars per week. That's 32 cars a month. So by june or mid july all the R32 and R42's would be out of ENY if things go smoothly.

The R42's would likely follow the R32's to 207th

BUT

I would send all 50 R42's to CI for rush hour (B) service. This would then bump 50 R160's to Jamaica to bump (5 sets) of R46's to pitkin for (C) service. I would rather do this than to give them to the  (A)

This would push 5 R68 sets to the (N) and (W) or (Q) lines

Yes, but once the 5 cars sets of r179's enter service some of the r32s would go to the G.
