With the (3) running every 12 minutes and the (5) running every 20 minutes, that's got to be some Sunday train traffic.

Anyway, I'm sure this has noticed before, but anyone else see how ineffectual the Broadway express is?

Take Friday. PM Rush. I'm at Union Square, after passing up two (R) trains not far apart, an Astoria-bound (N) comes. A few seconds after, the (Q) to Astoria comes. I randomly decide to take the (N). That same (Q) is still sitting at 34th St by the time we get there. Better yet, we actually get priority! Since the (N) and (Q) both arrive at Union Square at the same time, the (N) most likely got priority, and the (Q) probably got delayed while the (N) was crossing.

The primary purpose of an express is to increase capacity, right? And secondarily to save time? The (Q) does neither, since it still merges with the (N) and (R) and a lot of times it'll get forced behind the (N) at Dekalb, and again at 34th St. You could make the (Q) to Queens local and if you're going to 42nd or above and in a lot of cases it'll make absolutely no difference in how fast you get there. :/ Works in inverse too, because the (Q) sometimes gets held up at Prince St for the (N).

I can understand why the (Q) will more readily be held up, since there's less traffic on that track, but in some this makes the express useless.

Meh, rant of the day over.

Yesterday afternoon, I boarded a Coney Island bound (N) at Atlantic Av and right before it reached 36 St, it switched from the Southbound express track to the local track and then it bypassed 45th and 53rd on the local track...... We could have just waited for the (D) to leave 36 St because as soon as we left, the (D) on the express track departed as well.

I had seen the same thing happen to me several times before. Several times I have been on (N) trains that have switched to the local track at 36st. 1, The most wierdiest part I have seen at 36st is a (D) train that stopped with the first to third car of the train on the switch that leads to the West End and the rest of the cars of train at the platform. I have seen this like 3 times on the (N) train before. 2, I got on an (N) at Pacfic st like at 10:45 pm at Friday and the train switched to the local track at 36st and bypassed 45st and 53st. I think that TwoTimer mentions this before of why southbound (N) trains run local between 36st and 59st before express service ends due to (R) layups

Sounds possible, but this was around 3:45 in the afternoon and there was no (R) laying up, so I really don't know what the reason was for it.

Maybe that (D) was having a problem and RCC didn't know how long the (D) would be stuck there. So they just ran around the (D).

Another question I have is today I took a Euclid bound (C).At Hoyt-schemerhorn they announced it would be express. And it used the express track at least till Utica. So is that the general rule for this battery run that it uses the express track. It makes sense cause it dosent have to switch. But a problem is at Nostrand people might think the next (C) will arrive on the same track when really it will arrive downstairs.

I must be the only one who can't stand it when people refer to A division lines such as "the number (2)." We don't do that with the shuttles, right? When was the last time someone said "Let's take the letter (D) to Stillwell?" It sounds stupid and when I hear it, it makes me cringe.

Last Night I had a dream that I seen the R179s in New Jersey stored next to the Goethals bridge, they was already assembled in trainsets, not on a flatbed truck

Also it was a entirely new Bridge with four lanes and no divider between the road.

There was also some 143s, they could have been 179s but the front looked like 143s except for one set which exactly like the 179s lol.

Can't help out of town folks... hell, might also apply to people here that rarely rides the subways...

Heck, there was a family of tourists on the uptown (C) yesterday who were looking at the little snippet of the Weekender in the "improving non-stop" poster and thought that was the subway map...thinking the (C) was the (E) and the Lex was the west side line.

Why did the <img src='http://www.nyctransitforums.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/mta.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='()' />' /> get rid of the Subway Service Guide at the bottom of the map after June 2010. I always love looking at that thing.

I guess to remove clutter

Ugh...Melissa Kleiner sounds AWFUL on the (5) train. I have no idea why so many railfans were "in love" with her voice. Not only does she sound like she's half asleep, but she's just talking, not announcing. Why did anyone choose her to be an announcer?

Listening to this video, I really prefer Jessica Ettinger-Gottesman's old "The next stop is" announcement over the current one, though. It sounds much smoother and more human. I don't see why they changed it.

I'll be raising Melissa Kleiner from the dead with this upcoming GO on the 5 next week!

And whoa, I never knew about that "unavoidable delay" canned message. I also really miss the "Please be considerate. On crowded trains, hold onto your backpack and move to the middle of the car", which I used to use all the time on the 6. It got replaced with the Fastrack description message.

5's will be turning at 149 Upper, so I'll get to load the 5 Woodlawn-Flatbush program, which features the Melissa Kleiner announcements for the 2 stops in the Bronx it makes (as well as all the Jerome stops). 99% of conductors load the Dyre-Flatbush program, but that has 149 LOWER, meaning you have to resync at 138 because of the extra distance through the loop.

Her voice just sounds so calm and relaxing, I wish they would've kept her voice
