Was up in the BX today and man, the Orion CNG and D60HF fleets have really shrunk 😓 I remember back in the day I used to be so annoyed by those WF VII CNGs cause that's all WF ran on the weekends where's all the RTS and O-V they had sat in the depot. Now, when I ride a WF route I hope to get a Orion CNG over the New Flyers.

DD50 is my favorite engine and three remaining fleets that use that engine are shrinking fast... I'm gonna try to ride a RTS, D60HF and Orion CNG in the same day as my own personal "farewell to the DD50" fantrip, I've been on all three of those bus models this week but not in the same day😃

Funny how everyone will be bashing the new equipment but 10 years later, same people are gonna be crying over them retiring. Then again that's nearly everyone so.

Idk, I'm an Orion guy. I preferred the Gen 1 CNGs over the Gen 2 CNGs so I don't care much for the demise of 7685-7819, but they're cool buses.

Least there's always WMATA as a backup (For the time being...)

-

anyway there are 56 7 CNGs left so to make your life easier, get em now while they're still fairly common so you won't have to try too hard later on or be restricted by the rush. For the full dd50 experience i'd suggest you go out at night but only occasionally will a 7 stay out laaaaate at night but those days seem to be few and far between now...

at least right now we got 7745 on the 6, 7778 on the 36, and 7796 on the 36.

and FWIW, 5693 is on the 19 too.

Facts. Nobody cares about many buses untill they are close to retirement. That's why I care about some of the newer buses. Nothing will beat the RTSes, Orion 5 (CNGs too), and older New Flyers (Artic or C40). But at the same time. There are a lot of newer models that I like now before they become "favorites" to many bus fans.

Many people sleep on the Novas. They won't take the pace of an RTS but they are really solid Buses. People also sleep on the New C40LFs. Yes the bus is quiet compared to the old model. But besides that, these buses look the same.

But the point is that I care about bus models at all times. Not when they are brand new or about to retire. Its about that time in between.

And as far as the RTS being the backbone of the fleet. Once they retire I would say that the Xcelsiors are going to be the focus of the fleet of the future. And the Nova LFS will be the Orion 5s of the fleet as a different model to differentiate the fleet. Unless MTA looks at Gillig, MTA is most likely going to use this combo of buses Novas and Xcelsiors in the foreseeable future (Artics included). These are the future buses for New York.

I want to ask to all members, on the bus today from Walmart I get on and after I board there is a spot where people place their stuff, groceries boxes strollers etc.(on your left when you walk in the front door) I place my big grocery bag nothing else was there at the time  there we get to the bus station it gets crowded then some dude comes and brings a kid and the stroller on(small plastic stroller) is shouting WHOSE BAG IS THIS 3X. I say it's mine and tell him to place it behind my bag. It's like he was mad he couldn't place his stroller in that spot, also what was he gonna do if I had another big bag in this spot or someone placed all their groceries there force em to move it?

Though it's impossible to say when d60 5535 was renumbered, WF was late to the renumbering game and it's possible 5535 the D60 was still masquerading around as 5535 instead of 124, while 5531-5534 and 5536 were being prepped at whatever facility the novas go through. That said, you'd need to see if the VINs for 5534 and 36 were sequential or not to even give this THEORY a bit of credibity so in short: unknown. Be patient and as time moves on, it'll show up...

I've been noticing a lot of Q22's and some Q21's out of JFK depot (at least according to their badge), Aren't both routes usually assigned to Far Rockaway Depot IIRC?

They are assigned as Far Rockaway depot routes, but their fleet is Orion VIIs from JFK, 52 units rotated.

I see, I do recall the Orion VII's sent on both routes once having the Far Rockaway badges on them, though I do suppose it makes more sense in it's current state.
