Yeah but anything to corroborate that?

 

 

The structural damage rumors are unfounded. However, according to an MTA spokesperson, there is extensive damage to the switches, relays and signals in the Montague tubes. Similar problems are affecting the Nassau Street line south of Chambers St.

i agree with you lance. It obinious where the damage could be in the area otherwise the (J) could terminate at Broad Street while the (R) can terminate at Whitehall Street but i am guessing they kept terminal back because they can have all the work train there and room to move around.

Oh no! :angry: Guys mainly Wallyhorse please dont turn this into another (A) Casino/expanded Rockaway service thread again? This should be *only about the service options* that should be available due to the closing of the (A) Rockaway branch caused by Sandy. Lets stick to it please.

 

Sorry, I was actually done with that, having expressed my thoughts for not only the rebuild but the future post-Sandy.

 

Main thing is they at least have the line back up and running to Howard Beach, which right now is most important.

A couple of questions regarding service changes:

 

1) Are both sections of the R running 24/7?

1a) Is the southern portion running to Jay St during overnight hours?

2) Is the Q running local even when the R isn't running/isn't supposed to run?

Yes it was. Trains averaged 43 coming into the station, easily putting it 1 and 1a with 42nd southbound. Trains didn't even have to brake at the head like they generally must at 42nd, so its an exhiliarating thrill to brake in the station at that speed and make a smooth stop. This goes hand in hand with my other post, which said that many of you hope nothing else changes in the system by time you put on your set of stripes.

I know it's more $$$ but why is no one suggesting the LIRR Far Rockaway branch instead? I know it mainly a connection to Downtown Brooklyn via Atlantic Terminal and also Mid Manhattan via Penn Station? For some in the Far Rock area it the fastest alternative for now.

 

 

I said the same thing and people just ignored me. They should just cross honor metro cards on the Far Rockaway branch.

According to Tripplanner which has updated (R) schedules but no updated (N) or (Q) schedules:

-The north section of the (R) does not run overnight.

-The south section only runs between 36th and 95th overnight.

 

Also (based on personal observation but not anywhere online) the (A) is still running on the local tracks between 168 and 145 at all times (some stop, some don't during the day) even when the (C) is running.

LIPA powers the Rockaways. This is why no tech trains canbe used out there. Something with the power being different than ConEd that re-boots the computers..

 

I still can't fathom how the r160's could be effected by going to the rockaways. If there's a sudden difference in voltage, then isn't there some sort of protective device on the train like surge protectors? If not then any sudden difference in amps or voltage would fry any electronics on the train. And still why does this supposed thrid rail - electrical problem affect only the R160's and not the other rolling stock or trains that were tested on the rockaway's like the 142s/188. I'll take any answer you got since you actually work for the MTA, but i'm still a bit shady on agreeing with this argument.

I only regularly ride the Brooklyn IRT as well as the IND Fulton Street Line, but only during the day. I too would also like to know about the (A) and (Q)'s current timetables.

 

 

I only ride the (Q) to manhattan during the AM rush ( i take the B when coming back) and i can say that the (Q) is back to running it's normal schedule.... Well at least the (Q) that arrives at 6:35am is back on normal schedule.

 

 

 

I assume it's the same on the (A).

I've taken the (Q) a few times after Hurricane Sandy and yes it is back to normal despite running local downtown in Manhattan. Weekends, it still terminates at 57/7Av.

 

Other than the (1) to Rector, (J)(Z) terminating at Chambers, (A) Only going to Lefferts and Howard Beach, and the (R) not going to Lower Manhattan, everything else is back to normal.

I've also noticed the (Q) is now only running Broadway Local downtown. It's running Broadway Express uptown. Not good for folks on Broadway

 

Yep, rode on Broadway this week and man, during rush hours, the uptown local platforms are just packed and when the (N) comes by 23rd and 28th Streets, it is already jammed pack with no room and you see a (Q) train that has a fairly decent amount of room just running on the express track. The (Q) seems to also skip 49th Street northbound on occasions if the tower gives them that lineup. At least the (R) skips 49th Street both ways now. The (R) waiting to go into 34th can just sit on the express track at Times Square instead of on the local and holding up service all the way up to Lexington.

Here an update on the (R) in Thursday Morning Daily News. (11/15/12) It will probably be around Mid Dec. before the Montague Tunnel is back online.
