Why choose Bombardier to make the R179s? Choose Kawasaki or Alstom instead. Bombardier f**ked up all the cars that they made. R68A is getting retired 10 years early, R110B cars burned up and got retired after only 7 years of service, R142s had issues while testing, and now the R179s...

I meant R62A

The R142A had issues while testing as well, I think the R143 is the only NTT car class that didn't have major issues when introduced AFAIK.

The R110B wasn't meant to last long like the R62A & R142, also the 110B's lasted longer than the Kawasaki made 110A. The R62A's are good cars and are holding up well same goes for the R142s, bombardier was still good when they built those fleets. Kawasaki is a tad bit overrated by railfans, it kind of annoying lol. People really think the R142A is a superior product to the 142s built by Bombardier?

Really off topic here but any chance we can see an R142A (6) transferred to Westchester in the coming months? You know you miss it on Lexington Local lol

Yes, MTA is going to send one R142A back to Westchester because railfans miss it on the (6)...

sarcasm

The (C) may be mainly 179s with the headway changes from Cuomo with the 32s

Well, I have been seeing more r46's on the C lately. I don't know if this is an indication that all r32's will be retired, which I still doubt that it would happen, or the MTA is using the r46's to simply reduce frequency on the r32's, so that the r32's could last longer.

Yes, and look how the R32s turned out. They lasted 56 years, over the MTA usual of 40

The thing is, the R32s have been living on borrowed time for the past decade. If it weren’t for the R44s, the R32s would’ve retired at 45 years. Although, they’re a really good product for their age, it’s just a matter of luck that they’re still running today.

Well to put things in perspective, compare the R36 WF at retirement (40 years) with the R32 in 2009 (45 years), and the difference in quality is apparent.  I doubt the R27s or R30s would've managed to reach forty-five years in service, not after all the rust and acid baths their carbon steel went through in the '70s.

Speaking of the r32's, I haven't seen any r32's this week. I have seen more r46's on the C, plus a good chunk of r179's.

Hey, be advised that the R32’s are not the priority fleet assignment for the (C) They’re now considered supplemental equipment used as spare/put ins. There’s 108 cars available in rotation for service. I don’t Know where anyone got “58” cars left in service. That’s inaccurate.

even if the R44's stayed, 50 R32's would have stayed and went to ENY to replace the R42's, since 32 R160's really wasn't enough to replace all of them.

there were 2 on the (C) today with 1-2 on the (A)

3380/81 got its signs replaced and repaired so i don't think it was retired in the first place. From what i heard they only stripped a few cars. not that much.

They’re being kept around. May not always be in service but there’s still plenty on property.

Well if that's the case then it might have been their last trips on Monday, March 16.  Just four R-32 (C) trains on the rotation for the morning rush (if that was indeed a "rush hour" LOL).

3928/29-3714/15-3477/76-3396/97.

3841/40-3736/37-3672/73-3646/47.

3727/26-3664/65-3865/64-3857/56.

3779/78-3895/94-3811/10-3513/12.

Nine R-179s, Five R-46s and Four R-32s.  That could be it!

I noticed a pattern. On weekends it’s highly likely to spot R32’s on the (C) and potentially 1-2 on the (A) the R179s are in the Barn A lot.
