Planned Subway Service Changes

Recommended Posts

With the amount of times that the (5) isn't running past 180th street, they should just shut that part of the line down until all upgrades are made.  Ridiculous.

It's a balancing act. Sure, work would in theory be completed faster if the line was shut down 24/7 or every weekend, but that would piss off riders even more than the current setup with the intermittent shutdowns.

Say what?! So whats covering Woodlawn?

It could be like the service change from a couple of years ago where service along Jerome Ave was completely suspended. Last time, the G.O. called for 24 hour (5) service from Dyre Av to Utica Av. It appears that this time, they will be using the (4) designation instead, despite the higher potential for confusion since the (4) never touches White Plains Rd whereas the (5) does make limited trips to Utica Av. We'll have to see the final plans as they are released in the coming weeks.

A new program for the (4)? That's new.

And also, I think the (5) has only gone to Dyre Avenue 7 times during the weekend for the past year or year and a half.

Route options for the (4) via White Plains Rd have existed for quite some time in the 142s' computers. They just aren't used. As for the lack of Dyre Ave service, it appears those weekend shutdowns are winding down a bit. Instead of 3+ weekends of suspensions, we've only had one per month on average so far this year.

It seems like they want to send select trains to 180 St. The (4) will still have trips to Woodlawn, presumably every 16 minutes like the last time (even though it doesn't say anything about (4) cuts yet, but maybe they didn't update yet like they did with the (D)(F) ).

Actually it's all (4) Trains to E 180th Street that weekend, not selected trips.

Apparently (4) trains are going to both Woodlawn and E 180 Street, if this is any indication...

On the bottom it says "(4) trains replace the (5)..." which implies that they're all going to E180. Otherwise the advisory would say "Some (4) trains run on the (5) line..."

Then again if it was all (4) trains to E180, they might as well be (5) trips and just not run the (4) at all... Very confusing GO.

However, it says Woodlawn-bound as well.

These G.O. advisories are likely cut and pasted from a file somewhere. Since the (4) usually runs to Woodlawn, that's likely what was posted. As we get closer to the actual service change date, all of the pertinent information should line up correctly.

So it seems like I was wrong about the (4) veing totally moved from Jerome to WPR

From NYCT twitter https://twitter.com/NYCTSubway/status/833013919455141888

In that case, this is a pure cost savings move.

They couldn't get away with 20 minute service on the Dyre line anymore, so they're gonna shift the weekend cuts over to the Jerome line instead, while still presenting this as an improvement to Dyre riders (16's technically better than 20)...

The following weekend: (GO is Saturday only due to a soccer match at the Stadium on the 12th)

4.png Service operates every 16 minutes between 125 St and Woodlawn

Weekend, 7:30 AM to 7 PM, Saturday, Mar 11

-direct connection to the (F)

-6 Av shut down for work

-see above

Dyre has shuttle buses those weekends I think, and there is track replacement or something along Jerome.

What exactly are they doing on 6th Ave over these past few weekends? It's interesting that the 2 week Fast Track coincided with two of the weekends.

According to the article linked below, signal replacement and a new master tower. There's probably more, though.
